Approximately 39 million (12% of the US population) suffer from migraine headaches, 80%-90% of those suffer from light sensitivity before & during a migraine.

Vinny is 1 of those who suffer from migraines, causing him to have visual aura, numbing & tingling of extremities, nausea, & light sensitivity. For his symptoms, Vinny uses a rescue medication at the first sign of a migraine. However, even with his medication, the migraine will typically put an end to his day's activities & symptoms last into the next day.

Along with physical development & weight gain after birth, a newborn's eyes are still developing as well. 👶

Eye muscles are strengthening, color vision is improving, the color of a newborn's eyes may change as well.

Be sure to give your newborn lots of opportunity to focus on objects close to them, as their vision is very blurry in the first 4 months. Remember, their favorite object is you!

July is Dry Eye Awareness Month.

Here are 2 important facts about dry eyes: 👁 dryness can cause discomfort, redness, & blurred vision 👁 screen time & air moving within your home & auto can make symptoms worse.

To combat the effects of dry eyes, start with Systane®️ or Refresh®️ brands of artificial tears. We suggest using these 4-5 times throughout your day. If problems persist, talk to Dr. Bonham at your appointment about other treatments. Prescription medications may be better suited for your dry eyes, suppliments may be an option, & we offer Lipiflow treatments in our office.

If you've had chickenpox, the virus continues to live inside you. Reactivation of this virus causes shingles. Shingles, known to cause skin rashes & nerve pain, can also invade the eyes, sometimes causing severe symptoms & in some instances, permanent vision impairment or loss.

Dr. Bonham treats this condition more often than you would think. This is why she recommends the shingles vaccine for anyone age 50+ or anyone immunodeficient who has had chickenpox.

The chickpox vaccine became widely used in children around 2000, so chances are, if you're 25 or older, you have had the chickenpox as a child, making you susceptible to shingles.

Suspect you have shingles? Call our office at the first sign of symptoms to start treatment quickly.
