This week, at AE39, we proudly recognize and celebrate our incredible 9-1-1 dispatchers during National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week.

Behind every emergency call is a calm, steady voice guiding people through some of the most difficult moments of their lives. Our dispatchers are the first first-responders — working tirelessly, often unseen, to ensure help arrives quickly and safely.

Your dedication, professionalism, and compassion make a difference every single day. Thank you for your unwavering commitment to our community and for being the vital link between those in need and those who can help.

We have been out today delivering some “goodies” to all of our local dispatchers! We’ll be out again soon! Here are just a few of our lovely friends!

We are grateful for all that you do. 💛📞🖤

🐰 🧺 🐰 We’ve been busy today out and about delivering Easter cheer to our local hospital and EMS families!! Many of you were busy and we couldn’t catch pictures with everyone. As soon as we were coming in, they were getting toned out. The ERs were “hopping” too ( 🐰). Don’t worry, if you didn’t get one there’s still deliveries to be made! 🌷🌷

Thank you for your continuing support of AE 39 Brazil IN!! We are lucky to get to work with some amazing providers!!

Air Evac 39 had some special visitors today!!

On April 2, 2004, Caleb Moore was involved in a significant motor vehicle crash, where extensive extrication was needed. After an hour of work by the extrication team, Caleb was free from his mangled vehicle. Caleb shares that he had broken ribs, a collapsed lung, and pelvic fractures, and reports that he needed continuous therapy in order to walk again.

Every April 2nd, Caleb delivers cookies to the base, to say, “Thank you”.

Caleb shares that immediately following the accident, Flight Nurse, Sandra “Sandy” Pearson, who was coming to work at the base, was the first on the scene, and the Air Evac team was requested.

Sandy was killed August 31, 2008 in a helicopter crash, along with Flight Paramedic, Wade Weston, and Pilot, Roger Warren. While Heaven has gained these beautiful angels, their memories continue to impact those that their caring hands touched. This is a perfect example of just that.

So truly thankful that you are here to share your story.

🚁 Winter is settling in, and with it comes unique challenges for aviation — especially for medical aircraft like ours at Air Evac Lifeteam.
Even when the skies look clear from the ground, cold-weather conditions can create hazards that affect whether we’re able to launch safely.

One of the biggest winter concerns in aviation is icing.
Icing is the buildup of ice on an aircraft’s wings, rotor blades, engine components, or instruments. Even a small amount of ice can significantly affect performance by:

• altering aerodynamics
• decreasing lift and increasing drag
• reducing overall aircraft performance
• interfering with critical instruments
• decreasing engine power or causing potential damage

When does icing occur?
Icing can happen anytime the air temperature is 32°F (0°C) or colder and there is visible moisture present such as clouds, fog, rain, freezing drizzle, sleet, or snow.

Many icing events come from supercooled water droplets such as liquid moisture that remains unfrozen in freezing temperatures. When these droplets strike an aircraft, they freeze instantly, creating potentially dangerous ice buildup.

Even when the weather appears perfect from the ground, hazardous icing may exist at altitude or along the flight path.
That’s why our pilots conduct thorough weather evaluations before every mission and at times consult our Operational Control Center which consist of other pilots scanning the radar while we are out flying!

🚁 At Air Evac Lifeteam, safety isn’t just a priority—it’s our promise to our crews, our patients, and our requestors.
If you have a patient who may need air transport, please call us. Our crew will assess the conditions and make the safest decision for everyone involved. Your call allows us to explore every option safely and professionally.

We’re here for you all winter long — 24/7, whenever the need arises.

Our REACH family is devastated to share that Susan “Suzie” Smith has passed away from injuries sustained during the accident involving helicopter N414RX on Highway 50 on Monday night.

We will remember Suzie as a pillar of the EMS and healthcare community who saved countless lives by delivering compassionate care in their darkest hours. Suzie’s 50-year career as a nurse included nearly 21 years with REACH, and we are proud to call her our colleague and friend. We hope she is remembered for the light she brought to every call, every shift, and every patient she blessed with her care.

We grieve Suzie’s loss with her family, friends, colleagues and the entire community that she faithfully served. Her impact will be felt for years to come through the lives she touched, the teams she strengthened, and the compassion she embodied. Thank you for keeping Suzie’s loved ones and our REACH family in your thoughts and support for our team during this difficult time.
