The plantar fascia is a strong ligament that supports your feet when walking or standing. When the ligament is pulled, strained, or even torn, your body responds to the stress by causing inflammation. It comes in variable levels of pain and can be caused by a few factors, such as tight calf muscles, weight gain, and abnormal foot function. Controlling this stress is the key to eliminating your pain. In most cases, Plantar Fasciitis can be resolved through conservative measures, but extreme cases may need surgery. Pathology of the Month: PLANTAR FASCIITIS. As the weather gets warmer, walking in sandals, flip flops or barefoot becomes more of a habit and the occurance of heel pain and plantar fasciitis arises. Walking in less supportive footwear, being more active, and standing and walking on hard surfaces can all cause pain in your feet.
