Welcome to 5150 HEAT – Firearms Training Academy
My name is Ken Clements; I am the founder and Chief Firearms Instructor of 5150 HEAT – Firearms Training Academy. I’m a “Recovering Law Enforcement Officer,” now retired; after 30-years of faithfully & honorably safe-guarding lives & property; protecting the innocent; keeping the peace; and ensuring the rights of all to liberty, equality & justice.
I am experienced and knowledgeable in nearly every facet of the police profession. During the last 20 years of my police career I had the honor to serve as one of the department’s firearms instructors and range masters. had nearly 140 sworn police officers and every officer was required to qualify with their duty weapon and backup weapon each month. Periodically, the officers were required to qualify with other weapons such as: Remington 870 shotgun, Benelli police tactical semi-automatic shotgun, Less-Lethal: Bean-Bag Shotgun, AR-15, Bushmaster M4, H&K MP5, H&K G36K and many other examples of exotic weaponry. Most of the department’s firearms training was conducted at either an indoor or outdoor live fire shooting range. The only exception was when we got permission to conduct “Simunition Training” at a vacant building or an abandoned hospital or school somewhere in town. Simunitions is (non-lethal) military & law enforcement training, where various types and classes of firearms are deployed and re-chambered to accommodate bright florescent soap bullets. This is non-lethal training, but when you get hit with a cold soap bullet it can cause the most painful sting and bruise on the planet! I’m very happy that today we have Laser Pistol training like SIRT & LASR
Self-defense is a natural God given right not a privilege. Nevertheless, how you choose to answer the challenge that self-defense presents will determine if you are among the survivors or the multitudes of nameless, faceless victims of an attack. In any random act of violence the only cast-iron rule of certainty is you’ll be waiting an excessive length of time for police response to your 911 call. The target time for priority-one calls is about seven minutes and that amount of time may well be an eternity when seconds count. Consequently, the only other rule is there are no rules, only deadly consequences. The will to survive, to survive the attack, must be uppermost in your mind. For the one who lives through a fight is better off than the one who does not. Therefore, preparation and not paranoia is the key to your survival. To survive you must be aware, be alert, be confident, be decisive, be deceptive, and be ready. You must expect the unexpected and do the unexpected. When faced with violent assault, your life depends upon your reaction without hesitation. There is no time to ponder because to ponder is to possibly perish. Your response, if attacked, must not be fear but aggressiveness. You must block out all thoughts of your own peril and think only of stopping the assailant. When self-defense is on the line you need to be prepared to do whatever it takes for as long as it takes to get the job done. The perfect fight is one that is over before the loser realizes what’s happening. The perfect defense is a counterattack that succeeds before the enemy can attack again. Therefore, if you’re assaulted, retaliate instantly. It’s essential to be sudden and quick. You should be fast, not fair. Speed is your salvation. If you find yourself under lethal attack, don’t be kind. You should be harsh and tough. If you must shoot, you need to aim with precision and shoot to stop. If you must use your hands, you must use them with all the strength you possess and more. When you strike, strike hard; kick, punch, scratch, bite and do what must be done to survive. But, strike no more after your attacker is incapable of further action, always making certain the threat has stopped. Above all, don’t give up, and you will make it. You will not die in the streets, or in an alley, or in any other part of the concrete jungle. You will survive; not just by good luck and good fortune, but by your self-defense skills… And, hopefully just a little help from God! If you truly believe that defending yourself and the innocent people around you is important, please call (714) 680-5500.
