Welcome to ski season 2022! We are seeing loads of snow and are looking forward to some skiing! Just some reminders when traveling to altitude:
1) diet is an important factor in avoiding altitude sickness! Small frequent meals, higher in healthy carbs and lower in protein and fats.
2) Hydrate just enough to keep urine pale yellow to clear. Drinking more than that has no effect on altitude sickness.
3) Avoid alcohol before bedtime and drink about half of what you normally would. Alcohol is a respiratory depressant and will compound the issue of your oxygen levels dropping at night.
4) Try not to overdo it the first 48 hours. Have fun but take it easy!
5) Sunscreen and eye protection is extremely important!
6) If you have had altitude sickness in the past, starting acetazolamide 24 hrs. prior to arrival can help and/or sleeping on medical oxygen (requires a prescription which we can provide) at night will prevent issues.
