They sent a group of men to survey the land and prepare it for settlement. One of these surveyors, Seth Payne returned in June of 1811 to settle with his family and act as a land agent for Colonel Breck. In that same year, six other families came to Brecksville and then shortly thereafter, more families settled. Colonel Breck never settled in the town that was named after him, however, his three sons did. The last member of the Breck family to settle in Brecksville was Dr. Theodore Breck, a great grandson of the Colonel. He practiced medicine in the Breck home on public square until his death in 1934. City of Brecksville
Brecksville Road Resurfacing Project
Project Proposes Pavement Resurfacing on Brecksville Road
from Miller Road to Royalton Road/Chippewa Road (State Route 82)
Brecksville, Ohio (May 5, 2026) – The City of Brecksville in coordination with the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) District 12 is proposing to resurface the pavement and replace non-compliant ADA curb ramps on Brecksville Road from the intersection of Miller Road to the intersection with Royalton Road/Chippewa Road (SR 82). The project is located within Cuyahoga County, the city of Brecksville. The purpose of the project is to extend the service life of the existing roadway, to maintain structural integrity of the existing pavement, enhance safety, and improve ride quality.
The estimated construction cost is $4.7 million. Construction is estimated to begin in spring 2027 and estimated to be completed in late fall 2027. One lane of traffic will be maintained at all times or will be maintained using flaggers. Access to one entrance of Sleepy Hollow Golf Course, Brecksville Reservation, and the City of Brecksville Recreation Complex will be maintained at all times. Short closures of each entrance and the Valley Bridle Trail crossing over Brecksville Road are expected while pavement is removed and replaced directly in front of each location. These closures will be one location at a time and should not last longer than 15 minutes each while the construction equipment is in front of the area.
Public feedback will help the City make the best decisions about the project as it moves through the design and construction phases. Comments received by June 4, 2026, will be included in the official project documentation, but all comments will be accepted at any time.

Questions or comments regarding the project may be directed to the City of Brecksville, 9069 Brecksville Road, Brecksville, Ohio 44141, or Information@Brecksville.oh.us.com.
