Our Story
Since graduating from North Dakota State University’s pharmacy program in 1988, Mike and Laura Schwartzwald desired to own their own pharmacy, a patient-focused, full-service business with an emphasis on wellness and customer service. Their dream came true in 2001 when they purchased independently-owned pharmacies in Brainerd and Redwood Falls and partnered with Gary and Lisa Pundt in the purchase of the Rochester pharmacy. The premise of the business struck a chord within these communities, allowing them to expand four times in recent years. The Schwartzwald’s partnered with Jason and Genny Turner to purchase a pharmacy in Worthington, and later, with partners Tim and Judy Killeen, the Schwartzwald’s bought a pharmacy in Grand Marais. In 2011, they opened a new pharmacy in Winthrop with Ellen Anderson and Megan Schmidt, and also purchased a pharmacy in Crosby where Laura worked years ago. While the Grand Marais pharmacy retained its original name, Arrowhead Pharmacy, the others changed to GuidePoint, reflecting the values of the company — helping guide customers, pointing them in the direction of good health. As full-service pharmacies, GuidePoint offers cholesterol and blood pressure checks, vaccinations and medication therapy management, as well as filling prescriptions with the most effective, least expensive medications.
