Greetings Love,

“I eat shame for breakfast.”
One of my teachers used to say that with a mischievous grin.

What she meant was this: she loved herself so deeply—even in the moments she felt ashamed—that shame eventually lost its power over her. It stopped being something to hide from. It became something she could meet and metabolize.

Almost like saying: Bring it!

I’ve always loved the audacity of that way of relating to difficult emotions.

Lately I’ve been thinking about this in relation to a different feeling that many of us struggle with:

Disappointment.

There was a time in my life when disappointment felt crushing.
So I developed a strategy: don’t ask for much.

If I didn’t name the desire…
If I didn’t voice the need…
If I kept my hopes small enough…
Then I could protect myself from the ache of not being met.

Our nervous systems are brilliant that way. They are constantly trying to keep us safe from hurt.
But at what cost?

When we silence our desires to avoid disappointment, we may succeed in protecting ourselves…
…but we also end up living smaller than we are meant to.

Disappointment is part of being alive.
If you have hopes, dreams, longings, relationships, ambitions, creative impulses, wild desires for your life—disappointment will be on the menu.

Trying to avoid it is like trying to go to the ocean and never get wet.
So instead of trying to outrun disappointment, what if we learned how to meet it?

Here are a few places you might start:

• Notice when a desire rises in you—and how quickly you quiet it.
• Get curious about the story you tell yourself when disappointment appears. What are you making it mean about yourself?
• Remember that many things we want are not fully in our control. Disappointment isn’t failure—it’s part of the human experience.
• Create a small ritual or practice that helps you move through it when things don’t go your way. A walk. Breath. A good cry. A hand on your heart.

The things we refuse to face…
The feelings we push away…
Those are often the very things that keep us trapped.

I’m not interested in living a carefully managed life.
I want the whole, messy, magnificent experience.
Even the parts that sting.

I can say that because I know how to meet what comes and move through big, challenging feels.

Recently I was talking with my brilliant partner about something that lit a fire in me.

I was sharing a perspective shift I’d had.

This realization that whatever I want in my life, I have to make it happen.

But then he offered something that made my whole body soften.

He said, “What if it’s less about making it happen… and more about ripening for what’s already coming toward you?”

Ripening.

That word did something to me.

"Making it happen” carries pressure. It implies force. Control. The illusion that if we just push hard enough, we can orchestrate every variable.

But we can’t.

Life is wildly uncertain. There are a thousand moving pieces that don’t belong to us. Timing. Other people. Invisible currents. Grace.

When we grip and muscle our way through, we forget that.

Ripening feels different.
Ripening is participatory.

It asks:
✨Who do I need to become to be ready for what I desire?
✨How do I prepare my inner soil?
✨How do I make myself available?

I can’t force the bees.
But I can become honey.

I can tend my own sweetness. My own alignment. My own readiness.

I can cultivate a body, a nervous system, a relational field that feels safe, open, inviting.

This applies everywhere.

To love.
To intimacy.
To business.
To the life that’s whispering your name.

You can try to dominate outcomes.
Or you can co-create them.

One approach is tense, lonely, and exhausting.

The other requires trust, responsibility, and deep self-honesty — but it leaves room for magic. For mystery. For blessings you couldn’t have engineered on your own.

I want to talk about a familiar moment.

The one right before you silence yourself.
The one where truth hovers on your lips…
and you decide whether you’re going to speak or swallow to keep the peace.

Something happened.

A comment. A tone. Glossing over a boundary.
Your body registered it immediately.

And then your mind got busy.
Maybe I’m overreacting.
Maybe I can just let it go.

Sometimes letting it go is wisdom.
But sometimes it’s self-abandonment.

When you repeatedly override what you feel, you begin to erode trust within yourself. You start living slightly outside your own center.

Your feelings are not inconveniences.
They are information.

Speaking up can feel terrifying and risky. It can create friction, shift the dynamic, or expose something that changes how you experience the relationship.

But silence has a cost too.
Resentment.
Distance.
Eventually the dimming of desire and connection.

When you speak the hard thing — cleanly, without attack — you make space for something new and real to be present.

That kind of honesty doesn’t destroy healthy relationships. It strengthens them. It gives them the chance to evolve. A space for new things to grow.

Be honest…

When was the last time you were touched in a way that made you exhale?

I mean the kind that lets your body soften and quietly register: I’m here. I matter.

As a bodyworker and massage therapist, I carry a deep belief — human beings need touch.

Not as a bonus or indulgence.

We need it the way we need warmth and oxygen.

Touch orients you. It grounds you in your body. It lets your nervous system settle.

And yet… this isn’t a conversation I hear people having.

How much touch do you actually need?
Are you getting enough?

Do you even know what “enough” feels like?

There isn’t a right amount.

Some people need daily contact.
Others need spaciousness and very intentional touch.
The point isn’t comparison — it’s awareness.

When safe touch is missing, something subtle can start to dim.

Greetings Love,

I think one of the sexiest things in a relationship is curiosity.

When you’re curious, you’re actively seeking the other person—showing a desire to know them. And that can feel delicious.

Curiosity holds high value for me, and yet there are times when I find it challenging to bring it into my relationships.

The thing that stops my curiosity in its tracks most often is dysregulation—when my nervous system gets activated and my brain spins up a story about what’s happening.

By “story,” I mean the narrative my mind creates to fill in the blanks when my system feels threatened. It’s protective. Fast. And wildly creative.

My brain, bless it, often goes straight to worst-case scenario. It spins a version of events that makes the situation so unappealing that the obvious move is to retreat. Shut down. Pull away. Stay safe.

From a trauma perspective, this makes perfect sense. These stories aren’t trying to make life difficult—they’re attempts to protect us.

And… because they’re generated in isolation, they miss the other person’s perspective entirely. They are inherently incomplete.

When we’re in story, we’re no longer curious. We’re deciding. We’re filling in the blanks without ever checking whether what we’ve imagined is actually true.

So how do we find our way back?

The first step is catching yourself—realizing that you’re reacting, not responding.

Does your system feel activated, unsafe, or braced for something awful?
Does your mind feel like it’s spinning a mile a minute?

That awareness alone creates a little space.

The second step is regulation. Not analysis—regulation.
Go for a walk. Move your body. Shake. Breathe. Feel the feelings instead of trying to think your way out of them.

And then… return.
Return to curiosity.

Return to the other side of the equation—your partner, your lover, your friend.

See if you can ask a question instead of letting your brain decide the truth for you.

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve wound myself up tight over something that could have been clarified with one simple, honest inquiry—if only I hadn’t let fear take the wheel.

Happy Imbolc.

Imbolc marks the halfway point between Winter Solstice and Spring Equinox. The first moment when the sun’s return really becomes noticeable.

Something is shifting.
Thawing.
Stirring.

I recently saw a simple Imbolc ritual. Part of the ritual was to place a cup of ice on the altar, with candles and watch the ice melt. Being present to the thawing. It stayed with me.

Nature is always showing us the truth of how to move. What happens in the natural world is also happening in us. We are that connected.

Winter is a season of slowing—more rest, heavier foods, less doing. And then comes this in-between time. Not spring yet. Still the dream time. But something begins to loosen.

So I’m curious:
What starts to rise in you as things begin to thaw?
What stirs your excitement when you imagine warmer days ahead?

This isn’t the time for to-do lists or big commitments. It’s a time for imagining. For listening. For gently preparing the soil of your life so that when spring arrives, what you want to grow has somewhere to land.

And a reminder—we’re still thawing. No need to rush.

These are tender days. The world is asking a lot of us. I truly believe that tending ourselves is not indulgent—it’s essential. The steadier and more resourced we are, the more capable we become of rising up and against injustice.
