Struggling with a colicky baby? You’re not alone.💛 For parents, colic can feel exhausting, frustrating, and even overwhelming. Although you can feel helpless in trying to soothe your baby, that doesn’t mean there’s nothing you can do to help. Here are a few things you can try:

✨Magnesium lotion can help relax tension in your little one’s body. Colic is often a sign of overwhelm and significant tension within your baby’s body, and this is a great way to help calm that down.

✨While gut discomfort isn’t the only cause for colic, it is common. If you suspect your baby’s colic may be the result of gastric discomfort you can try clockwise belly rubs, bicycle kicks with baby’s legs to help get things moving. If you have any questions about how this is done give our office a call, or youtube can be a great resource as well!

✨If you’re breastfeeding, changing your diet or trying an elimination diet could be wise to see if baby may be reacting to something they are getting through your breast milk. Dairy, eggs, nuts, or caffeine are common allergens that may be affecting your little one.

✨Nervous system focused chiropractic care could be the missing piece. Pediatric chiropractors work on relieving tension in your little one’s body by focusing on their spine and nervous systems. This can reduce stress and discomfort, and potentially, symptoms such as colic as a result!

If you are interested in getting to the root cause of your baby’s colic or have any questions about how our office can help, give us a call or visit our website to schedule your complimentary phone consultation today!🌱

Does your baby struggle with colic? That prolonged crying that seems impossible to soothe?😭 Have you been told that your baby will simply grow out of it? This is a common misconception, as even though your baby may stop exhibiting the symptoms of colic, the root cause won’t simply go away. Babies rarely grow out of anything but simply grow into an onslaught of other dysfunction.😥

At Little Sprouts, we don’t believe in waiting around for your little ones to grow out of anything. We assess the function of their nervous system, managing stress and dysfunction within their little bodies in order to get to the root cause of their issues. This allows them to grow into better health instead of further issues.🌱

Does your little one cry for long periods of time for no obvious reason? Does the crying often begin suddenly, seem overly loud, or feel impossible to calm? Are you feeling overwhelmed with a sense of helplessness? Well, you’re not alone. 1 in 4 babies suffers with what we refer to as colic, leading to prolonged crying, sleepless nights, and so much stress for both baby and parents😭

Colic typically affects babies during the first 3 to 4 months of life, and usually peaks around 6 to 8 weeks. You may feel that you’ve tried everything to help your child, but it seems that no matter what, baby’s discomfort just won’t go away. But what causes this?🤔

Well, recent studies suggest a link between colic and neurological dysfunction in baby, triggered by factors like maternal stress during pregnancy, birth trauma, and gut imbalance in baby. This neurological dysfunction is often a dominance of the sympathetic nervous system.
Once that sympathetic dominance sets in for your baby, they struggle with basic health functions like sleeping, eating, and pooping which can lead to being constantly uncomfortable and therefore constantly upset or “colicky”🧠

The rest of this weeks leaflets will cover common misconceptions, what not to do with your colicky baby, and most importantly what can help!💚

Hey pregnant mamas! Do you experience a sharp, stabbing pain or a dull ache in your lower abdomen or groin, especially when changing positions, coughing, or sneezing? Round ligament pain is a common discomfort during pregnancy, caused by the stretching of the ligaments supporting your growing uterus. It tends to worsen as pregnancy progresses.🤰💥

Though it is common and a sign that your body is adjusting to the changes of pregnancy, there are ways to manage it naturally. Staying hydrated and switching positions slowly can help ease the discomfort. However taking preventative measures may be the best way to manage it. Chiropractic care during your pregnancy is one of the best natural preventative measures you can take. A Webster Certified prenatal chiropractor will specifically work on easing the tension in your round ligaments, as well as several other key structures of the pelvis that support the growth of your baby and can help decrease your discomfort😌

Give us a call to get your questions answered and see if our specific and gentle chiropractic care is the support your pregnancy is missing!💚

We’re still in the thick of this years cold and flu season, but have you ever wondered if it’s more than just the cold weather making you and your family more susceptible to sickness?🤔 While the drop in temperature plays a role, there are other factors at work that you may not have considered to be negatively affecting you and your kiddos immunity!

🌱Reduced sunlight means less vitamin D, which is essential for immune health.
🌱Reduced temperatures make us less likely to reach for a glass of water and stay hydrated.
🌱Increased stress of the holidays and traveling can compromise immunity.
🌱Schedule insanity and lack of sleep can further decrease immune function.
🌱Increased intake of sugar and sweets and deviation from what you typically eat negatively affect overall health, as well as immunity.
🌱Indoor heating can dry out nasal passages, making it easier for viruses to take hold. Plus, we’re spending more time indoors cozying up, and less time staying active!

Looking for more food for thought, and tips about how to best keep you and your family healthy this flu season and all year round? Visit our website at littlesproutschiropractic.com to get in touch today and start your journey to improved health for the whole family!🩷

Pregnancy can bring a lot of new aches and pains, and sciatic pain is one of the most common!🤰🏼

But why is this?
The growing baby puts extra pressure on the pelvis and low back, leading to strain on muscles such as the piriformis. The combination of the increased pressure and increased muscle tension in the pelvic area can lead to sharp shooting pain running from your lower back and down your legs.⚡️
This is what is commonly referred to as sciatic nerve pain or sciatica. As your body changes, hormone fluctuations and postural shifts can also contribute to this discomfort.😥

If you have sciatic pain, you’ve likely heard of stretches and exercises you could be doing. You’ve likely heard you should avoid high heels and wear supportive footwear. And maybe you’ve even heard that aside from this, you just have to wait it out until baby comes and then it will get better.⏰

But what if there was more you could be doing to support your body through pregnancy and all that comes along with it, including sciatic pain?💡
Well that’s exactly what we’re here for! We want moms to have a comfortable and fulfilling pregnancy. At Little Sprouts Chiropractic we do a thorough analysis and adjustment protocol specifically designed to get your pelvis moving and functioning correctly, and decrease stress on the precise structures that are contributing to your sciatic nerve pain. Not to mention helping get your pelvis positioned optimally for baby’s growth and a smoother delivery!🤱🏼

Remember, this stage is temporary, and relief is possible. Chiropractic care could be the support your pregnancy is missing and can help you feel your best through this massive life change💚

Hey mama! Do you experience shooting, cracking, or popping pain in the area of your p***c bone?🤔
In pregnancy, the changes occurring in your pelvis to grow your baby can lead to pain in the p***c symphysis (where the bones of your pelvis come together in the front). Often referred to as symphysis p***s dysfunction (SPD), this pain affects nearly 25% of all pregnant women and can be extremely uncomfortable.

But what causes this?
🌱A major culprit in joint pain during pregnancy is hormonal changes, primarily the introduction of a hormone called relaxin. Relaxin softens the ligaments supporting the pelvis leading to hyper mobility and an increase of stress on the p***c symphysis.
🌱Increased pressure on the pelvis due to the growing baby can contribute to separation of the symphysis leading to increased pain as well.
🌱Posture changes during pregnancy, and changes in gait can also impact the way the pelvis moves and increase pressure on the p***c symphysis as well.

So what can you do about it? If you’re struggling with SPD or p***c pain during your pregnancy, here are some things to try:
🚶🏽‍♀️‍➡️Watch how you move. Decrease sudden movements, slow down, and be very deliberate with the way you move. Examples include keeping your knees together when getting in or out of your car, being careful on stairs, and avoiding standing on one leg.

🦴Try a pelvic support belt! We recommend the Serola Sacroiliac Belt.

🧊Apply an ice pack to the p***c bone to decrease inflammation. A heat pack may also be helpful for managing pain.

🤰🏻And finally, go see a chiropractor who specializes in pregnancy care. We will work to balance the delicate structures of your pelvis allowing optimal movement and function, a most comfortable position for baby, and a most comfortable and pain-free pregnancy for you, mama!
