Since March, Gladys has been on an inspiring journey to walk the distance of a marathon.
After completing a physical therapy program, Gladys partnered with with our PT Jenna, to create an exercise program. Together, they calculated how many laps around the building added up to a mile and tracked the steps along the way.
Day by day, Gladysâ walking path wound through the hallways and grounds of our community. She logged her progress with Jenna, keeping track of how many miles she completed. Itâs worth noting that the average American adult walks just over 3,000 to 4,000 steps a day. For many older adults, that number can be even lower.
Gladys' hard work paid off on Friday, May 30 when she finally completed her marathon miles. With her family by her side, we gathered to celebrate Gladysâs incredible achievement as she crossed the finish line. She was honored with a certificate and crowned in styleâbecause every marathoner deserves a victory moment!
Her accomplishment is a shining example of what happens when we come together across departments to support our residents in reaching their goals.
We are so proud of you, Gladys! And now we canât help but wonder⊠where will she walk to next?
