Hearing loss is one of the most misunderstood changes that comes with aging, and it is often mistaken for memory loss or confusion.
It usually starts small. Someone asks a question and the response feels delayed. A person seems to miss details, answers something that does not quite fit, or smiles and nods without really engaging. In group settings, they may withdraw, stop participating, or avoid conversation altogether.
