Square breathing is probably my favorite coping skill. It is so versitile and so easy to teach and to learn!
We live in a world full of squares. This picture is a square, your phone has four sides, your bed room most likely has four walls. Any time you notice a square, make a note and practice this technique.
▫️Make sure your counting is not too fast.
▫️Breathe in through your nose and out through your mouth.
▫️Remember this is a practice. It takes time practicing it in everyday life for it to come easily in moments of stress or anxiety.

Happy Earth Day!
Being outside and in nature is something that is so important to me - hence my practice name! There are so many benefits to being outside. We are so connected to the earth and benefit so greatly when we reconnect with her.
How do you plan to spend sometime with nature today?

When we experience scary or hard things, it is so easy to want to get back to how we handled things before. We need time though. Trauma’s change us and by ignoring the changes that take place, we are doing ourselves a disservice.
When you see or experience these things, give yourself time to be afraid, to be sad, to be careful. Give yourself time and remember to breathe. Treat yourself with the kindness you would give a friend.

I’m Sarah, the human behind this page. I am so grateful to share my heart here. I am passionate about helping others build the skills to live a life of freedom.
I feel most alive in nature and try to get outside as much as possible. I’m a wife, a dog mom, a sister, a daughter and a human being.
No matter what we identify as, we will experience pain in life. During this past year, our experience has shown us so much uncertainty. We need each other more than ever. Reach out to someone you love today. Ask how they’re doing. Spend some time outside. Make sure you take time to fill your tank doing something you enjoy! www.thinkingoutside.co

Finding a solid therapist or counselor can take time. And you aren’t going to vibe with every person you meet with.
When looking for a therapist, psychologytoday.com and goodtherapy.com are wonderful resources to help you narrow down some options. Also - most therapists are willing to talk on the phone before setting up a session. This is a great way to have a short introduction and ask some questions of someone you’re interested in working with. Some of my favorite questions to discuss are “What caused you to look for a therapist or counselor?” “What does a therapeutic relationship look like with you?” and “What are some expectations of therapy services?”

What are some things you are thankful for today? I encourage clients to consider even the smallest things they are grateful for in their lives. Studies show so many improvements in our well-being with this practice! And when we start to look for things to be grateful for, the easier it is to notice in your daily life.

Do you practice gratitude in your daily life? The beauty of using gratitude as a skill is that it’s something we can do at any moment. Making this a practice can take some time to get used to, but it’s can be so beneficial!
I encourage you to think of a couple things you are grateful for today!
