Explant Update

I’m less than 2 days post surgery and feeling surprisingly good! The most discomfort I’ve experienced is a sore throat from the breathing tube that was placed.

I’m having to remind to not overdo it because I’m feeling so good 🙌

Let’s talk progesterone.

I talk a lot about foundational health because I truly believe the basics matter most: Minerals. Blood sugar balance. Nourishment. Nervous system support. Sleep. Light exposure. Strength training.

But I also think there’s nuance in women’s health.

Sometimes you are doing the foundational things…
and your body still needs a little extra support.

That’s what progesterone has been for me.

I originally started using it because I noticed I was feeling more edgy and overstimulated, especially with my kids, during the second half of my cycle. Less patience. Less resilience. More of that “on edge” feeling in my body even though I was supporting myself in all the foundational ways I normally teach.

And honestly? It helped tremendously.

One thing I personally love is using progesterone in troche form rather than oral capsules.

Troches absorb through the mucosal tissue, which allows more progesterone to have its desired effect rather than being extensively broken down into metabolites through digestion and first-pass metabolism in the liver.

For me, the benefits have looked like:
— a more regulated mood
— deeper, more restorative sleep
— feeling calmer in my nervous system
— and even improved libido

Of course, hormones are never one-size-fits-all and progesterone isn’t appropriate for everyone.

But I also think women deserve more nuanced conversations around hormonal support instead of being told to just push through feeling depleted, anxious, irritable, or disconnected from themselves.

Sometimes the body simply needs more support.
And there’s nothing wrong with that.

I’ve been a women’s health NP for just over 14 years and to be honest, the more I learn, the more I realize how much I still don’t know.

And I think my willingness to keep learning, to pivot, to try things that are “out of the box” is what makes me a really good provider.

If you are looking for someone who’s willing to walk right alongside you on your health journey, I’d be honored ♥️

I used to take offense and now I realize it’s actually a huge compliment.

Everything is energy and I believe a key part of the fertility conversation should include becoming an energetic match for the soul you are calling in.

Make no mistake, I love data and we do extensive testing to address potential physiologic drivers of infertility, but the work I do goes so much deeper.

Because becoming parent also calls us into incredible spiritual growth and couples need support that honors that.

When it comes to female libido I rarely see people discussing the importance of pelvic blood flow.

When there is restriction in the pelvic bowl, blood flow can be compromised, and this can impact overall sensation and hormonal signaling.

Things like childbirth, abdominal or pelvic surgery, or endometriosis can lead to restriction within the pelvic bowl. When we release this restriction through targeted myofascial release, we often see improved function, and dare I say, it boosted libido!

this is why I take a holistic approach to supporting women’s hormones and libido.

If desire feels distant or inconsistent, it’s not random.

Your body is responding to what’s happening internally.

Nervous system.
Brain signaling.
Blood flow.

These are the systems that determine whether desire is even accessible.

When we support the body, desire often follows.

Progesterone is often thought of as just a “cycle hormone”

But one of its most important roles
is how it influences your mitochondria.

Mitochondria are responsible for producing energy in your cells

And progesterone acts as a key signal that helps that process run more efficiently

→ improving energy production
→ reducing oxidative stress
→ supporting cellular recovery

It also supports the nervous system—
helping your body shift out of a constant “go” state
and into true rest and repair

Which is where your body actually restores energy

This is why so many women notice:

– deeper sleep
– more stable energy
– better recovery
– a calmer, more regulated baseline

This becomes especially important in:

perimenopause
and fertility challenges

when ovulation is inconsistent
and progesterone levels drop

Because it’s not just about being “low”

It’s about losing a key signal your mitochondria rely on
to produce energy well

And that’s why progesterone support can feel so impactful 🤍

Your energy is highly dependent on your mitochondria (aka the power houses of your cells) and what most women don’t realize is that many of their symptoms are directly related to the state of their mitochondria.

Your brain, muscles, and ovaries are some of the tissues with the highest concentration of mitochondria, and this is why when you have mitochondrial dysfunction, you may experience brain fog, difficulty recovering from exercise or building muscle, or menstrual cycle irregularities.

Your mitochondria take cues from your nervous system to determine how they should function and when they sense “danger“ such as disrupted sleep, low nutrient reserves, high toxic load, stealth infections, or chronic stress, they stop producing energy the way they should.

This is why when I work with women, we focus on the things that will restore the mitochondria, so they can finally heal.

Your energy isn’t random.

It’s being produced at a cellular level—by structures called mitochondria.

And naturally, the next question is…

how do we actually know how well your body is producing energy?

There isn’t one single test that gives us that answer.

Instead, we look at patterns.

How you feel:
– brain fog
– low or inconsistent energy
– poor recovery
– feeling inflamed or “off”

What your labs show:
– nutrient status (B12, magnesium, iron)
– blood sugar + insulin patterns
– markers of metabolic stress

And your overall context:
– sleep
– stress
– nutrition
– medications

Because energy production isn’t isolated.

It’s influenced by everything your body is navigating.

This is why I’m not just looking for a diagnosis…

I’m looking at how well your body is functioning.

Because when your body can produce energy efficiently,
everything else starts to shift 🤍
