SMARTCore is a fitness method designed to help stimulate the nervous system in order to change the way muscles and bones align and move. In addition, SMARTCore helps to develop a fit, capable body that allows you to live the way you choose. Utilizing key elements of Pilates such as br

eathing, centering, concentration, control and precision, SMARTCore also integrates principles from other somatic movement methods. Addressing the mind-body connection scientifically, is what makes SMARTCore different from traditional fitness models. SMARTCore is ideal for a variety of ages, lifestyles, and fitness levels, with the most common denominator being a search for a program that will challenge the body while building it up and preventing injury. The individualized approach of SMARTCore carries through into group classes, giving instructors the opportunity to work closely with each individual. In doing so, they are able to cater to people with past injuries, people that sit or stand all day for work, women that haven’t focused on their bodies since before having children, and high-level athletes looking to improve their performance. Our Classes
Truth is, there is a huge difference between someone giving a class, and someone teaching a class, which is why SMARTCore only allows 10 people per session – giving our highly trained instructors the chance to focus on your individual workout. Whether in a group class or in a private session, our instructors are trained to systematically bring bodies into better function, regardless of how they walk in the door. SMARTCore classes and private sessions are offered Monday through Saturday, with morning, afternoon, and evening sessions available. All classes are listed and available to sign up for at smartcoremethod.com. It’s just watery shape shifting soft tissue. You don’t like the way it tensions and pulls on your structure causing pain, ROM or posture issues, just change it. Not rocket science.

It should be said that medicine does not have the imaging tools to see or diagnose fascia restrictions, fascial tension lines that don’t serve your health or neuropatterning inefficiencies. Thus a broken system for getting many people out of pain and recovering ease of movement.

Thinking a lot this week about aging and the misconception that aging is synonymous with decline. A recent published study on rats revealed that the information contained in a cell does not die as we age, it becomes dormant, no longer called to action. When stimulated, that information becomes accessible again. The example they gave was in a cell that colors your hair with pigment. What’s true to the cell is true to a tissue, and an organism.
Information that is never called upon for action is going to become dormant, unusable, unattainable.

Our bodies are simply trying to facilitate our lifestyles. When you stop moving so much physically, your body hears that message and tries to help you out by becoming more stiff. It recognizes you don’t have a need for those lubricated joints because you are no longer using them in full ranges.

Since we know that new learning attaches itself to old learning, thus waking up the old information, it becomes critical as we age for a steady stream of new learning to saturate your life. Approaching the learning from a variety of kinesthetic abilities will provide our best chance at having the quality of life physically and mentally we want as long as we want. That means new discoveries, putting yourself in new and sometimes uncomfortable settings or situations, new movements, new sights, sounds, tastes, relationships, etc.

I speak from my experience as a 54 year old woman, who feels more freedom in my body and mind than I ever did when I was younger. Balance, variety, curiosity, awareness, adaptability, and surprises. . . That seems to be working well for me.

Move your body and mind regularly through all of the possibilities and a few of the unknowns 😊

How a body puts a movement together is an obsession for me and has been since I was a child. Questions I constantly ask are. . .

📍What happens at the first moment you begin the movement?
📍What is the timing and path of the weight shift?
📍How are the bones aligning to gravitational pressure to decrease the effort needed?
📍What is the sequence of action?
📍What contracts, lengthen, pulls, pushes?
📍What degree of effort is needed in each of those actions?
📍How is the full body participating in the movement? Contrary to popular beliefs and training methods, there is no movement in the body that works as a part or in isolation. Your whole body and its environment is involved in every movement.

Movements should not be ‘correct.’ They should be ‘APPROPRIATE.’ Corrections often make people even less connected to efficient organization.

Take your courses and read your books, but get the real information you need about movement from your own exploration and questions.

Embodiment can not be learned in a book.

A life changing experience to take part in John Sharkeys course this past week. This entire group of anatomists, manual and movement practitioners, researchers, sports scientists, and physios were just as educationally fulfilling to be with as the course itself. Deeper understanding of the connectivity of all things, the spiraling nature of life, the lack of actual layers (that we all have learned) in the body, the idea of ‘biological fitness’. . . so much to take in and continue to mull over for some time. Also thrilled to have experienced this course with my team at SMARTCore and .self. The learning never does end, grateful 😊🧠👁⚛️🌳🌏

There are lots of smart people out there. There is math, logic, intelligence, strong beliefs, faith, science. None of that trumps your right to change. All living things not only have the capacity for change, but the certainty of it. Who drives that change is your decision. The doc who limits your healing by telling you it’s arthritis and there’s nothing that can be done? Or your own body’s ability to regenerate, renew, renegotiate within itself and its relationships to everything? Even bones change shape, as demonstrated by our Earths changing landscape, our development of bone spurs, our ability to break down bone when we don’t need it anymore, our ability to strengthen bones when healing a fracture.
Always keep the window cracked open. Being locked in your mindset is a choice you make, not actually the way it has to be. No one, no matter how smart they are or how much knowledge they have in any given subject has the right to take your hope away.
Knowledge is an invitation to be curious. When knowledge becomes limiting and aims to put you in a box, we misunderstand the limitless opportunities knowledge can provide. Hope is literally everything.

Whether we like it or not we are married to gravity. Better make that relationship more functional because divorce is only possible through death. 😳 🔸Load Distribution: ankle, knee and hip bending in relationship to each other to keep the load from landing in only one place (typically the knees)
🔸Mechanical Advantage: Head, Tail, knees and heels all move in opposite directions to counterbalance the body while moving up or down.
🔸Sensory Information: the vibration of the PowerPlate allows us to highlight the feet sensing both contact of the ground and weight coming into them PRIOR to and while standing, AND to stay weight bearing until the very last moment in sitting back down.
