If your kid is around age 6–7, it’s the perfect time for their first orthodontic check-up!

Why this age rocks 👇
🦷 Adult teeth are starting to come in
👀 We can spot crowding, crossbites, or bite issues early
🌱 Jaws are still growing — which means easier (and often shorter) treatment
⏳ Early checks can prevent bigger problems later

Good news: seeing an orthodontist at 6–7 doesn’t always mean braces right away. Sometimes it’s just a “watch and wait” so we can time things perfectly.

Here’s why…
The American Dental Association (ADA) has reviewed the latest scientific evidence and now recommends discontinuing the routine use of lead aprons for dental X-rays for all patients — including children.

Let us explain.
• Modern digital X-ray machines, like the ones we use at Doyle Orthodontics, use a highly focused beam, meaning radiation is directed only to the exact area being examined with minimal scatter.
• Our advanced digital sensors require significantly less radiation to produce clear, high-quality images — often up to 90% less than older X-ray technology.
• Lead aprons can actually interfere with image quality or automatic exposure settings, sometimes resulting in the need for retakes.

Your safety is always our top priority. We follow ADA and FDA guidelines to ensure every X-ray taken in our office is necessary, precise, and as low-dose as possible — while still giving our doctors the clarity they need to provide the best care.
