April is Autism Awareness and Acceptance Month, and we are kicking it off by exploring what autism means while celebrating the unique strengths it brings.

Our understanding of autism continues to grow and evolve, especially as individuals with ASD are included in the conversation, helping us learn more every day. We now recognize autism as a spectrum that shapes how people experience and interact with the world.

Proprioceptive input provides the brain with essential feedback about movement and body position, helping the body understand where it is in space and how it is moving. In Neurologic Music Therapy®, music is used to help organize and structure that sensory information in a way that supports regulation and functional skill development. These interventions are sometimes paired with playful experiences like tickles to increase engagement, body awareness, and regulation. 🎶🧠

These moments also create meaningful opportunities to practice communicating needs, preferences, and boundaries within a safe and supportive environment.
