Last Friday, we welcomed our first cohort of NexGen: Tennessee Hospital Executive Internship interns during Orientation Day! 🎉 Over the next 12 weeks, these 10 healthcare administration graduate students will be embedded with executive teams at hospitals and health systems across Tennessee, gaining hands-on experience in healthcare leadership.

We are grateful to the preceptors who make this experience possible and are excited to follow this cohort throughout the summer. Thank you to Jeandré Joubert and Julia Martin for sharing what being selected for this internship means to them. Welcome to NexGen!

Healthcare access can be difficult to navigate, especially in rural communities. Across Northeast Tennessee and Southwest Virginia, Ballad Health’s Appalachian Highlands Care Network is helping uninsured and underinsured patients connect to care and support that might otherwise feel out of reach.

are often the first to offer reassurance, the last to leave a room, and the unwavering advocate patients and families rely on. During National Nurses Week, we honor the skill, humanity, and heart they bring to healthcare.

THA staff and over 25 hospital leaders from across the state traveled to Washington, DC, this week for the AHA Annual Meeting. Throughout the conference, the group met with every
office of the Tennessee delegation, including both Senate offices and all nine House offices.

Conversations were focused on the importance of keeping hospitals strong so they can continue caring for patients across Tennessee. It was an excellent opportunity
to strengthen relationships with each office and share Tennessee hospitals’ positive impact on patients and communities.

A new approach to nursing education is taking shape in Tennessee, creating more opportunities for students to learn, earn, and step confidently into the workforce.

Strengthening Tennessee’s healthcare workforce requires more than one perspective. The 2026 Mend the Gap: Healthcare Workforce Summit, a first-of-its-kind event for Tennessee, brought together leaders from hospitals, education, workforce, and policy to take on that challenge together.

There was a clear sense of shared purpose throughout the day, with perspectives across roles and regions shaping the conversation.

Thank you to everyone who showed up ready to contribute. The work to mend the workforce gap continues, and we are grateful to have the right voices at the table.

Last week, we celebrated Emma Rainey, RN, for completing the THA Nurse Residency Program at Macon Community Hospital! Through the program, Emma dedicated her first year as a nurse developing clinical leadership skills that she can apply in her current role at the emergency department and throughout her career. She concluded her time in the program with a presentation on Tranexamic Acid Pediatric Protocol which she shared with hospital leadership, THA staff, and her peers in the program. Congratulations to Emma on this achievement!
