So happy to announce Marsha Zimmerman, has joined Brentwood Hypnotherapy and Life Coaching as our new Online Life Coach/Counselor. (Behavioral counseling/mentoring (adults and teens), Relationship counseling (couples or individuals), Career/Corporate (Counseling/Consultant).
In these 'new times' we are experiencing now, thanks to technology we are able to extend this wonderful service to anyone/anywhere. Marsha has over 20 years of experience. So, it is that time of year when people start making those "successful?" New Year Resolutions. Most people have good intentions of following through. Those New Year Goals and Dreams usually require a lot of work, a lot of motivation and determination. Well here is a few small tips on setting some goals for the New year that might make it more pleasant to achieve. Or at least give you that inspiration to stay on track, for the long haul.

1. Choose Carefully your Goal. Make sure it is the 'right' goal. The way you do that, first, ask yourself "Why?" Why do I want to achieve this goal? Why is this goal so important? is this goal in actuality, attainable? Then, rate this goal. How achievable is it on a Scale of 1 to 10. If you feel it's like an 8 or above, this will make you feel more confident, that you can actually achieve the goal, so you won't get overwhelmed and stop.

2. Make a Reality plan. Write it down Write down what is Priority #1. to start this goal. Even if it is a small step, then when you achieve your #1 starting point.. go to #.2, # 3, etc. Don't move to #2, until your finish #1.

3. Make a Vision Board. (making it real with pictures, such as: cut out photos in magazines of what you want in your life, so your mind can actually create a picture of what you are imagining.. so it can make it happen... quicker) This is called the Law of Attraction.

4. Be kind to yourself. You may find yourself, slipping here and there and that's AOK. It's part of the process.
You are taking one step at a time. And if you make a mistake. Learn from your mistake. Use it as a challenge to reset, learn and adapt. Move forward with your plan. Remember: *Change the plan, but never the goal". Looking forward will keep you focused. We can't change what we have already done. We can change what we are about to do.

5. Once you have obtained your goal. Celebrate! Sometimes when we achieve what we set for our goal, we are not as excited as we thought we would be. That is because our brain's reward system cares more about ":getting' than 'having'. Just keep in mind that the enjoyment of completing the goal will probably be spread over a long period of time. Just let it all sink in and you will learn to appreciate all your accomplishments because you deserve it! Then it is time to set another goal and go for it!

I want to wish all of my friends and family a very Merry Christmas Holiday season. Here are some Holiday phrases (serious and humorous) that may be worthy to remember:

How A Pause Can Save The Day

From time to time, we all need to take pause, a brief stillness, a moment to review “…our initial reaction so we can move to the place where a calm, thoughtful response is born.”
Through hindsight, we often realize how much stress we could have prevented by pausing to reconsider our choices before taking action. Many of us have learned this lesson many times over: for example, sometimes our heart nudges us to take a pause before releasing an angered response to an e-mail or posting.. and we don’t listen. We mechanically press send and often second-guess ourselves the minute we click the mouse.
Then we become compressed, foreseeing the predictable stress we’ll experience from the backlash, and we are usually right – sometimes its days before all is well in the building. Pausing to review our feelings could have prevented this energy depleting scenario. There are myriad situations where we sacrifice our wellbeing because we allow hurry to jam our intuitive nudges to pause before sensitive engagement.

Practicing Pause and Calm
Pausing to feel our heart’s suggestions can deter many energy-draining standoffs with others, often with people we care about the most. We can proactively avoid these repeating, uncomfortable situations and regrets. Practicing pause and calm is increasing in popularity as a respected self-care practice, especially in these sped-up times of change, uncertainty and pressurized choices.
Many of us learned the value of pause from parents and passed it on as wisdom to our children. However, as life’s demanding pace keeps increasing, the memory to pause often fades when we are under pressure for speedy choices and actions. Speed may quicken action but pausing to review can make the effective difference in where our actions land us.
This post is not to reinvent the intelligence of pause and review; it’s to hopefully inspire a renewed connection, if needed, with this effective habit of preemptive wisdom through these chaotic, yet adventuresome times.

Would you like to relieve stress easily in a minute or so? Here is a QUICK Coherence Technique that I would love for you to use. Once you practice this simple technique, you can relieve stress and increase emotional balance, improve mental clarity, relieve worry, stress, fatigue or tension. This technique will give you a short break to recharge your energy. And you can use it ... anytime.
First: Sit down and get as comfortable as you can. Focus on the area of your heart. If you like, you can even put your hand over your heart. Make sure you are putting all your attention on the heart area.

Second: As you focus on the heart area, imagine your breath is flowing in and out of that area. This helps your mind and energy to stay focused in the heart area, so your respiration and hear rhythms start to synchronize.
Breathe slowly. Breathe in 5 counts.. Breathe out 5 counts. Keep breathing in 5 counts and out 5 counts slowly until your breathing feels smooth and balanced and not forced.

Third: Continue to breathe through the area of your heart and as you do, recall a positive feeling, a time that you felt really good (maybe a vacation, a place you really enjoyed or being around a person that you love or a pet, something that makes you smile to think about it and gives you a sincere attitude of appreciation or care)
Now, you are allowing yourself, giving yourself permission to feel calm, relaxed, in control and you will start feeling uplifted and regenerated.

This technique is simple and quick to use. And makes it easier, once you practice it, (Practice makes it even more effective) to remain calm and balanced in challenging times, so you can reduce stress right in the moment, as it occurs. You don't have to find a place to meditate or wait for your yoga class. When you feel stressed or you need to increase your emotional balance, recharge your energy, you can do this in one minute.
