Since it's the weekend, let's take a closer look at the value of recreation!

With work and commitments, our weeks can get pretty busy quickly. Off time and weekends can be used for rest, chores and responsibilities, and supporting others. These are all great!

However, engaging in recreation regularly has so many benefits, so it's important to make time to do it! A culture where everyone is so busy and more productivity can be seen as virtuous, we could be scared to slow down and do something that is purely for recreation and enjoyment. But with how rejuvenating recreation can be, having regular recreation can help us be more productive, more caring, and more at peace when we engage in the responsibilities of life. Recreation gives us healthier coping skills, strengthens our bodies and minds, and creates new pathways toward joy, meaning, and connection.

It's a simple, easy way to keep a healthy and resilient life in recovery as it reinforces healthy habits and maintains mental health.

Whether it's exercise, sports, getting out in nature, simple walks, arts and crafts, reading, or whatever, you probably know what it is you like to do. So, we're here to encourage you to take some time for recreation. Even if it's small amounts every week, it can go a long way.

Today is dedicated to raising awareness about the benefits of psychotherapy, addressing stigmas surrounding seeking professional help, and promoting mental well-being in general.

In treating addiction, we deploy a number of psychotherapeutic methods, and there's a reason this aspect is crucial to the addiction treatment process. Therapy allows us to uncover the underlying factors that drive addiction, reframe them, heal from them, and then build tools to combat temptations and manage stress and pain in a healthy way.

Recovery doesn’t stop when treatment ends. Aftercare is a vital bridge that helps you stay connected, supported, and focused as you transition back into everyday life.

It provides structure, guidance, and accountability when you need it most. Through ongoing therapy, support groups, and relapse-prevention strategies, aftercare ensures you’re not navigating recovery alone. It helps you recognize triggers and gives you tools to manage them before they become setbacks.

With consistent check-ins and a supportive network, aftercare builds resilience and confidence in your sobriety. True healing is a lifelong journey, and aftercare is crucial to setting up yourself for success after treatment.

This is why we see Aftercare as a necessary step in our treatment programs, and we're proud to offer it.

Sometimes known as co-occurring disorders, Dual Diagnosis refers to the presence of both a mental health disorder and a substance use disorder. For example, someone might struggle with depression and alcohol dependency simultaneously, or anxiety alongside drug addiction. These conditions often exacerbate each other, making it crucial to treat both simultaneously for effective recovery

Causes of Dual Diagnosis included genetics, environmental factors, brain chemistry, and psychological factors. And symptoms can include intense mood swings, withdrawal from social activities, compulsive behavior, self-medication with substances, and difficulty managing daily life.

It's important to address both addiction and mental health issues, and that's why we bring an integrated approach to treatment. Our programs utilize Dual Diagnosis treatment to heal mental health issues, addiction, and how the two are connected in order to heal the whole person.

Helping a loved one with alcoholism can be overwhelming, but we want to provide some helpful tips that we have seen go a long ways in our addiction treatment experience.

1. Educate yourself on alcoholism
-> Learn how alcohol changes the brain, risks of withdrawal, and treatment options in 2025.

2. Communicate without judgment
-> Using "I" statements can help avoid sounding accusatory. Avoid shaming statements and maintain a supportive tone.

3. Set healthy boundaries
-> Prioritize your mental health while not doing anything to enable their behavior, and resist the urge to shield them from the consequences of their actions.

4. Encourage professional help
-> Explore detox options, residential programs for continued support, and family therapy programs.

5. Take care of yourself
-> Seek support groups (like Al-Anon), explore therapy options for yourself, and make sure to have time for yourself.
