Text neck is a modern posture problem caused by looking down at phones, tablets, or other screens for long periods. This forward head position puts extra strain on the neck and upper back, leading to pain, stiffness, headaches, and poor posture. Chiropractic care can help by realigning the spine, relieving muscle tension, and improving joint mobility.

Gonstead chiropractic, along with precise adjustments, also provide posture guidance, stretches, and strengthening exercises to correct the root cause and prevent future discomfort.

The intervertebral discs are fascinating structures within our bodies, playing a crucial role in maintaining spinal flexibility and cushioning the vertebrae. Unlike many other bodily systems that enjoy a direct blood supply, intervertebral discs have a unique way of receiving nutrients—through movement. This process is known as diffusion, where nutrients are absorbed into the disc as we move, bend, and stretch.

This distinct characteristic highlights the importance of regular physical activity. Movement facilitates the flow of essential nutrients to the discs, promoting their health and function. Without adequate movement, these discs can become malnourished, leading to issues such as pain, stiffness, or even more severe spinal conditions.

This underscores a broader message about the significance of movement for overall health. Regular physical activity not only supports the health of intervertebral discs but also benefits the entire body, enhancing cardiovascular health, boosting mood, and improving muscle and bone strength. Incorporating movement into our daily routines helps ensure that all parts of our body, including those like the intervertebral discs that depend on it for nourishment, function optimally. So, let's keep moving and give our bodies the care they deserve!

Acute Torticollis

31 year old male woke up with pain and severe decrease in range of motion in his neck. He spent the night in a different bed with a different pillow than he was usually accustomed to. He was unable to drive himself to the clinic because of the limited range of motion.

adjusted the patient twice on Thursday, again on Friday and Sunday. The patient had gradual improvements in range of motion after each adjustment. He was instructed to ice throughout the day to bring down the swelling within the disc. T2 and T5 were found during the physical exam and adjusted on the first visit.

Torticollis, often referred to as “wry neck,” is a condition where the neck muscles contract, causing the head to twist to one side. It can be caused by muscle spasms, injury, or as a result of underlying neurological issues. Symptoms typically include pain, stiffness, and difficulty in moving the head. A specific Gonstead adjustment can help align the vertebra on the intervertebral disc restoring proper motion. This will promote swelling to be pushed out of the disc and pressure taken off of the nearby nerves. The muscle spasm is your bodies way of protecting this injury.
