Thinking about therapy or has someone mentioned that you should try it but you’re feeling afraid to go to therapy?

Therapy doesn’t have to feel so scary. It’s really just like you’re talking to a friend, but with someone who’s a bit more qualified.

So much of finding the right therapist is about finding someone who fits exactly what you’re looking for, and that includes the type of vibe and energy you have with them.

Our therapists want to make sure that you have the right fit. Reading bios, looking at pictures, listening to video or audio content a therapist has done will help you find the right one for you and it’ll feel less scary. You can even check sites like ours, go to sereniumwellness.com and our “find a therapist” page to curate the type of therapist that would fit for you. https://sereniumwellness.com/find-a-therapist/

Grief isn’t just about losing a loved one or a pet. We can grieve many things in our life. Grief is about the loss of something. It could be the loss of a friendship, it could be a divorce, it could be a friendship break up, it could be losing a job, it could be moving, etc. The feelings and stages of grief can enter into any and all of these situations and is quite common.

Here’s 5 steps to find grief relief:

1. Acknowledge your feelings – give yourself permission to feel whatever emotions arise without judgment or rushing.

2. Engage in physical activity – studies show even regular movement or light exercise can improve sleep and help ground overwhelming feelings.

3. Express yourself creatively – writing, painting, dancing or crafting offer a safe therapeutic outlet to process emotions that feel too big for words.

4. Honor what you lost – create a memory box of meaningful objects. It’s not about staying stuck, but about acknowledging that what you lost mattered.

5. Work with a therapist – a therapist can help you develop personalized coping strategies and work through complicated emotions.

Have you noticed with the time change that the shorter days that are cold and darker seem to affect how you feel? There are actually biological reasons for that and ways you can help naturally that can either improve it completely or supplement the work you do with a therapist and psychiatric nurse practitioner if needed. One of our psychiatric nurse practitioners talks about our bodies need for vitamin D and that being outside can make a big difference when their sunlight. Also, she talks about how exercising can help reduce feelings of anxiety, depression, and finally the option to purchase an SAD lamp to help mimic the vitamin D that your body may need.

What’s one simple habit that can change your life? How you interpret things that happened to you. Our therapist Nick talks a lot about how so much of how we feel and act is dependent on interpretations of what happens. When someone bumps into you, do you consider that person hit you on purpose or that it was an accident? Changing how we interpret a situation can change how we feel throughout the day. Working with a therapist can help you understand how to start changing that mindset.

For some people, the holidays are a joyous time to spend with people you love most. But for many people, it’s a time where you feel forced to spend time with people you don’t want to simply because they are your family. So how do you create boundaries and not make it so stressful when you see people you don’t really want to during the holidays? First our therapist talks about understanding why you’re anxious or stressed, preplanning what you will say and not say, and reminding yourself that you don’t owe it to anyone to answer every question or explain everything. Your mental health and peace is important and boundaries can help you get there. Working with a therapist can be super helpful in navigating these challenging times.

How do you know if someone is a narcissist? One of the big telling signs that they are not, as our therapist shares, is that they are able to self reflect and they want to improve. So if you or that person are doing that work, you’re most likely not a narcissist. However, if you’ve been with someone who you think might be, whether that’s a family member or someone you’ve dated, working with a therapist can help you determine what happened, and how to get mentally and emotionally well.

One of the biggest challenges, people face when it comes to starting their mental health journey is finding the right therapist for them. We get asked all the time, how do I know who’s the best therapist for me? One of the things we’ve learned over the years is that the therapist style matters. The vibe and the energy you have with them can make all the difference in your experience and your healing.

Now you can curate the type of therapist you’re looking for in all different areas, but even in the type of style that they do.

If you’re in New Jersey, and looking for a therapist, Serenium offers locations and virtual therapy for ages 5 to adult, covered by most insurance. If you’re not in New Jersey, this is still a great way to understand more of the type of therapist you might be looking for in your area as well.
