The tactile sense refers to our ability to feel , allowing us to perceive objects that come into contact with our skin. Our skin contains thousands of tiny sensors called tactile receptors. These receptors transmit information about an object's texture, temperature, and pressure to our , which processes this information and enables us to identify what we are touching.
Children and teenagers with Functional Disconnection Syndrome experience touch stimuli differently than others. For example, something that feels fine to most children may be irritating to them.
๐ The difference is due to underactivity in the brain, especially on the right side. Children with under-sensitivity may feel less intensely and may not exhibit distress when they are injured. In contrast, hypersensitive children may find certain types of touch or uncomfortable; they can be particularly sensitive to the feeling of tags on shirts or specific kinds of clothing.
