Have you noticed the beautiful new art work up in our hallway yet?π
We are honored to have one of our amazing members, Paul R., featured here!
A little about his story:
"I am the colorblind artist.
In kindergarten, it was determined that I was partially colorblind. My choice of crayon color for the sky and grass was different from the rest of my classmates.
Throughout my childhood, my interest in painting and drawing led to a lifetime hobby.
In the early nineties, I took an adult education, oil painting course. As a colorblind painter, the class had its challenges. I started with black and white paintings of nostalgic scenes from the thirties, forties, and fifties. I was a practicing, local Oral Surgeon and hung a variety of my pieces in my office. A patient recommended that I have a show and referred me to a gallery. That started my next painting venture.
I coupled my love of sports and art and created pieces representing iconic sports figures, most with idiosyncratic backgrounds. I create the colors by looking up the specifics of certain items, such as skin tones, reading the color names on various tubes, and using a color wheel for additional assistance.
I will be rotating paintings of prominent athletes on a bimonthly basis at J Fitness.
If you are interested in learning more about a particular piece or have an idea for my next, you can contact me via phone or text at (203) 650-2294.β
