WVU Medicine United Hospital Center (UHC) is proud to announce a significant donation to the Bridgeport detachment of the West Virginia State Police — funding for the purchase of 15 MediTAC Rucksack Assault Trauma Tactical Kits. This contribution is designed to equip the local law enforcement with immediate life-saving medical supplies for use in critical, high-stress situations.

The specific kits chosen, the MediTAC fully stocked Rucksack Assault Trauma Tactical IFAK Kits, are versatile and portable, ensuring officers have advanced trauma supplies on hand wherever they go. Each kit includes essential emergency items for quick and effective treatment in the field, such as a CAT tourniquet, chest seals, clotting gauze, and a LifeStraw water filter. This equipment provides immediate care for severe bleeding, dehydration, and injury stabilization, serving as vital life-saving equipment for first responders.

"In an emergency situation, the immediate actions taken by first responders often determine the difference between life and death," said David F. Hess, MD, regional president of the Central Region for WVU Health System and CEO of WVU Medicine United Hospital Center. "The brave men and women of the West Virginia State Police are on the front lines every day protecting our community. By providing these advanced trauma kits, we are empowering them to deliver critical, immediate care when seconds count most. UHC is committed to the health and safety of our region, and supporting our local law enforcement is an essential part of that mission."

The donation underscores United Hospital Center's dedication to community health initiatives that extend beyond the hospital walls, reinforcing the strong partnership between local healthcare providers and public safety agencies.

WVU Medicine United Hospital Center (UHC) is proud to announce that its Postgraduate Year One (PGY1) Pharmacy Residency program has been granted full accreditation by the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP). This prestigious accreditation formally recognizes the program’s commitment to providing a high standard of postgraduate pharmacy training and education.

The ASHP accreditation process involves a rigorous review of a program's structure, curriculum, and outcomes to ensure it meets nationally recognized standards for quality and excellence. The accreditation status confirms that UHC’s program provides residents with the necessary advanced knowledge, skills, and experiences to become competent, confident, and compassionate pharmacy practitioners prepared for a wide array of roles within the healthcare system.

The PGY1 program at UHC is designed to build upon the Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) education and contribute to the development of clinical pharmacists responsible for medication-related care of patients with a wide range of diseases. Residents in the program gain experience in diverse clinical settings, including critical care, infectious diseases, and pharmacy administration, preparing them for advanced practice or PGY2 residency training in a focused area.

“Achieving ASHP accreditation is a significant milestone for our hospital and our pharmacy team,” said Kevin Pritt, PharmD, BCPS. manager of Pharmacy, Clinical Pharmacy, PGY-1 Pharmacy Residency Program Director. “It underscores our dedication to educational excellence and to fostering the next generation of highly skilled pharmacy leaders who will make a meaningful impact on patient care here in West Virginia and beyond.”
“We are incredibly proud of the hard work and dedication of our program director, preceptors, and residents who have built a robust and enriching program,” said Carlton Hoskinson B.S. Pharm., director of Pharmacy. “This accreditation validates our efforts and assures prospective residents that our program meets the highest standards for pharmacy residency education.”

United Hospital Center is now recruiting for its upcoming residency class, offering a comprehensive training environment in a supportive community hospital setting.
