WVU Medicine United Hospital Center (UHC) is proud to announce a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the expansion of its Rapid Care services and the opening of a new onsite pharmacy at the Elkins Corridor Medical Center. The event took place on Thursday, March 12, at 11:00 a.m. at the facility located at 1013 N. Randolph Ave, Elkins, WV.

This expansion represents a continued commitment by WVU Medicine to improve access to high-quality healthcare in Randolph County and the surrounding region. The enhanced Rapid Care unit and the new pharmacy are designed to provide "all-in-one" care, allowing patients to see a provider, receive diagnoses, and fill prescriptions in one convenient location.

"Our goal is to ensure that the people in this area have the care they need when and where they need it," said David F. Hess, MD, CEO United Hospital Center, Regional President of the Central Region for West Virginia University Health System. "Expanding our Rapid Care capacity and adding a pharmacy directly into this facility reduces travel and provides faster, more convenient service to our community".

A special arrival during Girl Scout Week features a warm welcome thanks to a partnership between Girl Scouts of Black Diamond Council and United Hospital Center. 💚💚💚

To celebrate the first baby girl born at United Hospital Center during Girl Scout Week, Troop 35344 with Girl Scouts of Black Diamond Council will present the newborn and her family with a basket of Girl Scout-themed goodies and keepsakes in honor of the milestone.

Girl Scout Week commemorates the founding of Girl Scouts of the USA on March 12, 1912, and celebrates more than a century of building girls of courage, confidence and character who make the world a better place.

“This is a joyful way to celebrate Girl Scout Week while welcoming a new member of our community,” said Beth Casey, CEO of Girl Scouts of Black Diamond Council. “We hope this gift serves as a reminder that little Makinleigh is entering a world full of opportunity.”

The basket, delivered by Girl Scout volunteers, helps celebrate the occasion alongside hospital staff.

Girl Scouts of Black Diamond Council serves girls and volunteers across West Virginia, Virginia, Ohio and Maryland, providing experiences that build confidence, leadership skills and lifelong friendships.

UHC Oncology employees are wearing blue today (March 6) to recognize Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month and to highlight the importance of regular colorectal cancer screening.

Observed each March, Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month brings attention to the disease and encourages colorectal cancer screening, which can detect cancer early when it is easier to treat and cure. In addition, the first Friday in March is designated as Dress in Blue Day, a day when individuals are encouraged to wear blue to spark conversation about screening and prevention.

Colorectal cancer is the fourth most common cause of cancer-related deaths in the United States. Current estimates show that one in 23 men and one in 26 women will develop the disease during their lifetimes. 💙
