Great job by our A shift this afternoon.
This afternoon, at 1239 hours, the Bridgeton Fire Department was dispatched to a dwelling fire at 13 Pleasant Avenue (correct address was 15 Pleasant Avenue). At 1243 hours, Deputy 7 arrived on location, reported smoke showing from all sides and fire showing from the "A" Side and established Pleasant Avenue command. Deputy 7 provided responding units of their orders and advised the occupant is potentially still inside. At 1244 hours, Engine 7 and Ladder 7 arrived on scene. After quickly donning their SCBA Masks, Captain John Pagels and FF Julius Mendez began a primary search under fire and zero visibility conditions. FF Julius Mendez located the unconscious occupant on a couch in one of the bedrooms. FF Julius Mendez began to remove the occupant, and once in the hallway, was joined by Captain John Pagels. The two then carried the occupant outside to safety. Once outside the occupant became conscious and was able to speak with EMS and did not require treatment or transportation. At 1247 hours, Deputy 7 advised CC911 Dispatch the occupant was removed from the dwelling. Captain John Pagels and FF Julius Mendez, directly after rescuing the occupant, reentered the dwelling and finished the primary search and began pre-fire control overhaul while FF William Bitting was performing fire suppression. The fire was quickly placed under control at 1308 hours.
Great job FF Julius Mendez, Captain John Pagels and the remaining crew from "A" Shift.
Thank you to our EMS Division, the Bridgeton Police Department and all of our mutual aid departments who assisted.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
