✨Join me at New Jersey’s premier brain injury conference on Wednesday, May 6! 📅✨

I’ll be presenting one of several workshops at the 🧠Brain Injury Alliance of New Jersey’s Annual Professional Seminar:

More Than a Bump on the Head: A Multidisciplinary Approach to Pediatric Concussion Management
Susanne Ginart, RN, MS APN-C, Giana Giorello, PT, DPT, Catherine Mazzola, MD, FAANS, Tatiana Sikorskyj, APN, RNFA

My workshop is part of their full-day conference consisting of a keynote presentation followed by three workshop blocks with three presentations in each block. Lunch will be served and exhibitors and student poster presentations will also be included. I hope to see you there!

How many times have you seen diagrams or heard the gym folks say to turn your feet in or twist your leg 🦵to "bias the vastus lateralis"....have you ever wondered if it really works?

Here's the thing- it likely doesn't, and our nervous system is the culprit because all 4 muscles in your QUADRICEPS (quad = 4) are controlled by 1 💥nerve.

Hope you learned something today👩‍🏫!

And here's just one EMG Study, but it is generally understood that the quadriceps muscles act as a unit as they are activated by 1 nerve.

🔍Results: The normalized VMO/VL ratio was significantly greater during the short squat than during the maximum voluntary isometric muscle contractions, but no significant differences were identified across the 3 foot positions.

Hi, hello, welcome in, pull up a seat and take a load off your feet as Shania Twain sings.

Here are a few things I want you to remember as you go about my page whether you're following, you've just come across this, you viewed a story or anything else.

1. I am a physical therapist. I'm human, I am a teacher, a supervisor, a movement specialist, a researcher and more. I run, I compete and I move. I'm not a multimillionaire content creator or influencer. I didn't use ✨AI ✨to generate my certificates or education. I earned my doctorate, I passed my board exam, I know my scope.

2. My goal is 👩‍🏫 education, not sales💸. I'm not here to sell you a product or receive commission for anything. I don't mind the creators that do or that use these routes as income. If there comes a time when that becomes something I am exploring, I will be fully transparent with you all. For now, anything I recommend or speak about comes from my own experiences and things that I have found beneficial.

3. I'm not here to gatekeep, but there are boundaries. My routines, reps, sets and "what I eat in a day" are tailored for my needs and goals. They're not applicable for everyone, simple as that.

4. My tips DO NOT replace seeing your provider🩺. I'm here to share what I know, but within my scope. I will always recommend seeing your own provider. 👩‍⚕️

5. I believe movement is medicine, I also believe most aren't moving enough. Movement at work is great, but there are benefits to separate exercise rather than walking in the hall or manual labor. There are a variety of avenues to explore and many are very accessible. Find a goal and make it matter 🥅

Thanks for being here, let's keep moving and learning together.

Annual Conference and Business Meeting Recap

This was my first time as an exhibitor at a conference and it was a blast! I've never been on the other side of the table and this was such a rewarding and eye opening experience. The goal being at the conference was to open up lines of communication between PTs and ATCs to enhance patient care and allow for a more comprehensive and multidisciplinary approach.

The gaps that were addressed with the athletic trainers were that in concussion care specifically for the adolescent population, there is a gap in care going from a return to learn and return to play protocol to practice and game play. Sure we can do activities in the clinic, but it's rare that the adolescent population (the younger age groups- elementary and middle school as well as recreational sports) has a dedicated athletic trainer and if they do, that trainer may have over 2,000 students- so this is the gap we found. As a PT I may not feel comfortable clearing the patient for full contact practices but have no where else to send them, this is where an AT would come in, they are on the field and at the practice and can have a say in determining if the patient is ready to return to sport, rather than JUST the clinical observation that I have.

Many clinics are equipped to handle athletes, but to a point. Nothing is going to truly replace the feeling of being out on the field, on the track, head to head, or on the ice... So that is a critical role that the athletic trainer can play in the care continuum.

As a PT this was such an insightful set of conversations with such passionate professionals and it will hopefully lead to increases in communication, collaboration, and safer return to play for the families we serve

📈 What progress really looks like vs. what you want it to look like.

As a physical therapist, a common question I get is: "How many visits will it take to get back to 100%?"

The truth is, there's no definite number—progress isn't linear.

We treat multidimensional individuals (and if you're applying this to fitness you are a multidimensional individual) with a variety of symptom domains, from strength and endurance to neuroplasticity. There will be ups, downs, and plateaus, but that doesn't mean you're not getting closer to your goals. Keep showing up; the journey is worth it. 💪🧠 📈⚡

🚀 Snack your way to better fitness? 🥨

YES PLEASE!

Who needs hour-long gym sessions when 90 seconds of stair-sprinting 'exercise snacks' spread through the day beats 40 minutes of steady cycling for boosting your cardio? Science says so—and your schedule will thank you.

Tiny bursts, massive gains. Who's trying this today? 💥

Halfway through February and I still hadn’t shared my 2026 goals… which honestly means I’ve been too busy working on them to post about them 👀💪🏼

In December I “hid under a rock” (not literally 😅). I logged out, deleted social apps from my phone, and stayed logged in only on my iPad for professional accounts. More time to read. Learn. Think. Research. Grow.

I don’t miss social media much personally — but as a new grad PT, I respect how powerful it is for networking, marketing, advocacy, and research. So yes, posting slowed down. But the work didn’t.

✨ 2026 Goals ✨

🩺 PT in the Clinic
• Grow my caseload
• Concussion care
• Multidisciplinary involvement

📢 Advocacy
•Last year I took a risk advocating for our profession. Wearing multiple hats can create tension — but silence doesn’t create change. I’m proud to support + and continue advocating for PTs at every level. Advocacy stays on my list this year.

📚 Research
•Post-grad life can feel disconnected from academia (hello imposter syndrome 🙃). After 7 years of school, that shift is real. This year I want to reconnect with research and work toward submitting a manuscript.

💻 Online PT Growth
•I love my pediatric population — but I’m curious about expanding into hybrid/online PT (gym-goers, lifters, CrossFit athletes 👀). Lots to learn about doing this ethically and efficiently — but I’m excited.

🏋🏼‍♀️ Personal + Fitness: No huge race this year (yet). Just building well-rounded fitness:
•Cardio ❤️ Sleep 😴 Mobility 🤸🏼 Stability ⚖️ Strength 💥 Training for longevity. Multiplanar movement. Plyos. Rotation. Function.
•And yes — 10k steps. I know it’s arbitrary. My brain likes the number. We move 😂
🫀Cardio is no longer an afterthought. As someone navigating HR variability post-concussions (don’t worry none that are new), I’m intentionally rebuilding both easy AND hard zones. Life doesn’t live in “Zone 2” — so we adapt.

Big year. Consistent work. Let’s go. 🚀

#2026

Come take a sneak peek into the exercise prescription lab. Yes your therapist is probably walking through exercises between appointments and figuring out how to tailor the activity to you as a patient. Here you’ll see some examples of what I did recently for a patient who sustained a concussion.
Obviously this short clip does not paint the whole picture, but in case you were curious about what physical therapy for a concussion may look like here’s a snippet.
The activities performed with therapist facilitation are functional and based off of patient presentation, their subjective reports and where they are in their recovery along with many other factors. Not all patients may need in depth vision or vestibular rehab just as not all patients may need a ton of hands on manual therapy at their cervical spine.

Drop a like 💟 or comment 💬 if you learned a little bit about concussion rehab

🎉SEVEN🎉

7 whole years at .life .bridgewater though I have to note my beginnings at .bergen

If you had asked me when I started up in Montvale NJ as a Kids Guru if I saw myself getting more involved - I’m not sure what 18 year old, freshman biology major G would say. I’d probably be happy to have a gym being built minutes from my house

If you ask me now if I thought I’d be here 7 years so far I’m still going to say I have no idea how it’s been this long.

SEVEN YEARS - worth of growth in Kids Academy, I have the privilege of growing alongside your kiddos as an instructor & supervisor, some of the kids I teach and take care of I’ve seen since they’ve been 3 months old, some are aging out and I see them on the fitness floor or in a class- what other environment do you have that level of impact?! Showing kids how to move and how to enjoy movement and then to see them do it on their own? The Kids Academy is such a hidden gem 💎

And now? 2025/2026 I’ve grown into a National Role as a Kids Facilitator or Master Instructor so I have the honor of teaching our core courses to the Kids and Aquatics teams nationwide. One of my many hats 🎩

For me it’s been quite an interesting journey- from the “college job” to piloting classes at the Bridgewater club, to becoming a facilitator.

On the personal side I can say that Life Time is my second home, 353 visits in 2025, with many days coming more than once for a walk, a workout, a class, a shift- you can’t expect anyone else to jump in to the ‘Healthy Way of Life’ unless you do. It’s not about finding time for me, it’s about making time and having some things be a non negotiable. Movement is medicine.

And while there are ups and downs in any timeline, any job, any experience- there’s things I’d change😳, there’s things I’d love to give my input and feedback in😉😉, there’s also a whole bunch of positive here.

So cheers to 7 years, cheers to moving quietly and consistently and to making waves 🌊 and advocating from this position. And a reminder that all team members make an impact daily- not just the ones you find on the fitness floor.
