The 3rd-5th grade builders had a mini figure swap challenge. Each member created a special mini figure, drew names to trade, and then split into groups to build a special scene matching the personality of their figure. Lots of creativity and teamwork! Great job!

It’s so, so damaging to look at the outcome and decide that the person just didn’t make enough effort.

Many of us are absolutely working ourselves into the ground just to get by. Our effort is enormous, and it always is. It always has been, even if others don’t recognise it.

Some days we try as hard as we can and get nowhere. Many days we spend more effort that we actually have available to give.

Some days we try our hardest and all we can do is exist.

Keep this in mind when you have a neurodivergent child who is unable to meet expectations.

The middle school builders took on a fun challenge!

Each builder had 5 minutes to make whatever they wanted. The only rule was that they had to have an idea in mind (no stacking bricks without a goal). After 5 minutes, they passed their build to the partner on their right, but they could not give any information about what they had made. The timer was set for another five minutes and the sequence continued until the build got back to the original creator. Once complete, they put their minds together to see what they could make.

The 3rd-5th grade builders enjoyed another day of box builds. 🦖 🐶

Team 1 loves box builds and flies right through them! Two builds in two hours!!!

Team 2 is very excited to put the finishing touches on their puppy spa, so they can enjoy some more relaxed free building today. If you look closely, you can see that one team member didn’t want to be held back by directions. His dog house addition completes this set in the most wonderful way!

I love all the approaches! 🌟

These guys are learning about the value of teamwork, listening to our friends, problem solving, and sharing the workload 🤝👂💡👷🏽‍♀️

One of my children has autism. They are absolutely amazing!!! The majority of people never get to appreciate how special they are, because the pieces that are different are difficult to understand, and judgment happens quickly. My child notices, but thankfully, they are the most forgiving person I have ever met 💜 They will ALWAYS give you another chance, no matter how deeply they are hurt. I wake up every day wishing that forgiveness weren’t such a routine part of their day. Wouldn’t it be nice to have a season in life where you could simply play, laugh, and be understood?

My hope and prayer is that more people in the world will see autism (and all neurodivergencies) in such a positive light as Adhd Sheppey. These kids are AMAZING!!!! In my journey of parenting and being a therapist, I am constantly in awe of the talents of each and every child I meet. It doesn’t concern me one bit that these children aren’t considered to be “neurotypical.” They’re neuro-incredible! 🌟 Each child is bursting with talent, potential, and motivation! I have never once met a child I wasn’t able to learn a deep and life-changing lesson from. Although their neurodivergency doesn’t concern me (because it’s not a problem, it’s a difference), the lack of support and understanding 100% makes me furious 😡 🤯

My child is one of the strongest, bravest, hardest-working people I have ever met, and I will always be their #1 advocate. Even when it gets me in a little trouble 🤭🫣💕

Autistic people are all of these - and more!

Our potential is the result of our passion, motivation, and support system. It cannot be measured 🌟Always follow your heart 💕

This was shared by author Alexandra Penfold on Twitter along with the following message...

“This weekend I sorted through some papers my mom saved from my childhood. The top one is my 4th grade self evaluation. The bottom, my 4th grade state test score. Random House published my 6th book last week. ”

I understand the purpose of state tests, but they should NEVER be used to predict or define a person's capabilities or how much they can achieve in life.

If my SAT scores reflected my capabilities, I wouldn't be where I am today. (I do NOT do well on multiple choice exams. And that is most certainly not a reflection of my capabilities. )

This image is such a powerful reminder that we are more than what others think of us... and we are far more than what standardized testing tells us we are capable of.
