Hi y’all! Rebekah here…
Most of you know and have met Scarlett, and most know about her condition, Macrodactyly. If you don’t…
Meet Scarlett Heather! She’s 3 going on 13, and a smart, sassy, beautiful, strong little girl. She was diagnosed with Macrodactyly at around 7 weeks old, after seeing many specialists. Macrodactyly literally translates to “big digit” and it means her index finger (and thumb) are growing faster and larger than her other fingers. Her index finger is also hooked so it rests on top of her middle finger. It doesn’t hurt her, but certainly gets in her way.
After consulting with some of the best pediatric orthopedic hand specialists in the country for the last 3 years, we’ve made the difficult (but what we all believe is correct) decision to amputate her right index finger, in what they call a ray-resection surgery.
Surgery is on Monday afternoon at Shriners in Philly. Will keep everyone updated! 🥰
