Neurosurgical Associates of Central Jersey, P.A.

Neurosurgical Associates of Central Jersey, P.A. Neurosurgical Assoc of Central Jersey specializes in complex spine and brain disorders of adults. We’re the experts in neurological and spinal care.

Our patients benefit from the expertise and experience of our highly skilled, compassionate team of surgeons—Dr. James Chimenti and Dr. Jay More. They consistently turn to advanced techniques and state-of-the-art technologies to treat a range of neurological conditions, including brain and pituitary tumors, trigeminal neuralgia, pinched nerves, and spinal conditions, like herniated disks and spinal compression fractures. While we are extremely conservative about invasive intervention, when we deem surgery is necessary, we employ the most high-tech procedures and tools available. We were the first practice in the area to use the Novalis stereotactic radiosurgery system for targeted tumor radiation, available at Somerset Medical Center, and Dr. More is one of just a few neurosurgeons in the state to perform kyphoplasty for compression fractures. We also have been integrally involved in researching and developing new minimally invasive approaches and devices for optimal neurosurgical care, and currently are participating in a metastatic brain cancer clinical trial at Somerset Medical Center. Since 1997, we’ve been serving the central New Jersey community and providing patients with personalized care that gets them up and about and back to their daily lives. Throughout treatment, Dr. Chimenti and Dr. More spend significant time explaining procedure plans and putting minds at ease—a dedication that is truly appreciated by patients and family members alike. Our small professional staff is warm and welcoming and ready to answer any questions about treatment, billing and insurance. If fact, we’re regarded so highly in the neurosurgery field that we often care for medical colleagues and their families and friends. Let us put you on the road to recovery as well.

A craniotomy is a remarkable neurosurgical procedure that gives doctors direct access to the brain. Imagine a temporary "window" in the skull, allowing our expert surgeons to address critical conditions.

Why is this procedure so vital? Craniotomies are performed for a wide range of reasons, from carefully removing brain tumors and clipping aneurysms to draining infections and even implanting devices for conditions like Parkinson's.

Ever wonder how neurosurgeons achieve incredible precision in brain tumor removal? Meet 5-ALA Fluorescent Dye – often called the "Pink Drink"! This oral agent is ingested before surgery and illuminates only the malignant brain tumor cells under UV light.

Why is this so crucial? Gliomas, a common type of brain tumor, have elusive, threadlike tendrils that are hard to see under normal light. 5-ALA allows surgeons to visualize these diffuse edges, leading to a much more complete resection and dramatically reducing the chance of recurrence.

The "funny bone" 🦴 is anything but funny when you hit it! That jolt of tingling pain isn't a bone at all, but your ulnar nerve – one of the arm's main nerves. It's particularly vulnerable at the elbow's cubital tunnel. While usually temporary, prolonged pain, numbness, or tingling could signal irritation or entrapment.
