As part of this year’s Junior Volunteer Program, our young volunteers spent the summer building meaningful connections with residents in our nursing households. Through thoughtful interviews and heartfelt conversations, they listened, learned, and laughed together.

When asked, “What advice would you give to someone my age?”—our residents didn’t hold back. Their words were full of insight, kindness, and timeless wisdom:

💬 “Always be honest and tell the truth.”
💬 “Try and love everyone like a brother or sister.”
💬 “Do what you like and like what you do.”
💬 “Treat everyone fair and give life your best.”
💬 “Be serious but enjoy life.”

We’re grateful for the intergenerational connections this program fostered—and for the beautiful reminders that a few simple words can leave a lasting impact. 💛

🌟 What a busy day we had yesterday! Our Walking Wonders group strolled over to visit our neighbors at for lunch! 😋🥪🚶

Then, when we returned, Belinda—our wonderful volunteer who shares her time each week with Gardner House—was leading a fall wreath making craft. 🍂💐

Needless to say, we all had a good night’s rest after such a full day!

Exercise AND read more at our seasonal book club, Tale Blazers! Adults of all ages are invited to Bridgewater Retirement Community's Crist Farm Walking Trails every 3rd Tuesday of the month (from June to October) for meaningful movement and bookish chats.

At September's meeting, we'll walk the scenic trails for the first hour and then dive into a discussion of Celeste Ng's "Our Missing Hearts" for the remaining time! Registration at mrlib.org/events is politely requested for planning purposes.

☀️ As summer winds down, we’ve been soaking up every bit of fun! Village residents enjoyed a round of putt-putt at right here in Bridgewater ⛳️and we kicked off Walking Wonders with our household residents! 🚶✨

🎉 Surprise! At this morning’s Coffee with the President, our Village residents gathered to wish President Rodney Alderfer a very happy birthday. 🥳

☀️ We spent the morning soaking up the sunshine and spending time with the incredible Rockingham County Public Schools - VA students of Helping Hands Service Camp—local 6th, 7th, and 8th graders spending their week giving back across the Valley! Today, they’re joining us in the community garden for connection, conversation, and creativity. 🌱

Under Carrie’s guidance, the group is making nosegays, also known as tussie mussies, and learning the history behind the arrangement—turning a fun project into a meaningful one. We’re grateful for their time and energy today!

We’re thrilled to welcome Kristi of Knot Myself Crochet back to BRC this week after she joined us for BRC Fest—and loved it enough to return for yesterday's Farmer’s Market!

While she’s usually set up as a regular retail spot, Kristi has quickly discovered what makes BRC special: the warm welcome from our residents and team members. In just a week, she’s already felt the kindness and connection that makes this community shine.

Her work is seriously adorable—you’ll want to stop by her table to see her playful, handmade creations up close. We’re so happy to have her here!

🦫 The Joy House crew rolled into Buc-ee’s yesterday—snacks, smiles, and laughs all around! 😄 Harold even took it upon himself to become an honorary reporter, interviewing Buc-ee’s team members and curious shoppers alike. Let’s just say… he stole the show! 🎤
