Look…life happens

Kids get sick, work runs long, cars break down. I get it!

I always give my clients the benefit of cancellations without fees if it’s an emergency.

BUT

Mama didnt raise no fool either. If a pattern of last minute cancellations appears, I will put my foot down.

It’s not personal, it’s just self-respect.

When it comes to taking payments, I REFUSE to say the words…

Let’s talk about ✨ Boundaries in Massage Therapy ✨

I LOVE helping people feel their best, but healthy boundaries require me to separate my work life from my social life.

When you blend the two, you set yourself up for a lot of:

🔥 uncomfortable conversations 🔥

How do boundaries look for LMT’s?

➡️ “I know you’re family but I can’t give you a free massage, I’m happy to offer a 15% family discount though.”

➡️ “I’m sorry the only time you have off work is 11:00 PM, I’ve chosen to end my day at 7. I’m happy to set you up with a therapist who may work later.”

➡️ “I’m glad you feel comfortable sharing your thoughts in this space, but I prefer not to talk politics while in a session.”

“I’m just getting old.”

What a sad statement. Rarely do we hear this in a positive context. Usually it follows a grunt of pain or a comment about how terrible sleep has been.

But what if aging was a beautiful process?

Rather than justifying our aches and brain fog with a derogatory statement like “I’m just getting old,” what if we allowed our bodies to speak to us.

🌿 Random aches and pains?
- time to strengthen muscles to support your joints

🌿 Overwhelming fatigue
- Take care of your gut health. Are you actually absorbing the right nutrients?

🌿 Impossible to sleep?
- Maybe it’s time to slow down and practice self care before bed. Or to get a massage to lower your cortisol levels.

Yes. It requires work. Yes, your body will move slower at 65 than it does at 20.

But the earlier you can start listening to your body, the happier and more independent you will be in the long run.

🚨 I have TERRIBLE news 🚨

…turns out discipline and consistency win over quick and easy fixes

I know, bummer.

But it’s the tale as old as time, what takes a long time to develop will take a long time to go away.

This is the case for the good habits, and the bad!

So live for your future self, build good habits that will take care of you in your old age.

Need some ideas? I gotchu:

✨ take 10 minutes of screen free time before bed
✨ do a 5 minute core workout on YouTube before work
✨ take out your AirPods on the walk to class/work
✨ try a brand new fruit or vegetable (maybe a kumquat..)
✨ FINALLY book that massage (I had to throw that in here 🤗)

We’re all living this life for the first time, so don’t beat yourself up when you slip up on a goal. We’re all learning together.

🚨 HOTish TAKE 🚨

“Massage will not fully fix you if your lifestyle encourages discomfort”

Now HEAR ME OUT.

❌I’m NOT saying that you’re a failure if you relate to this. Heck, I relate to this! You’re in the majority!

❌ I’m NOT saying that occasional sugar, energy drinks, or a doom scroll will wreck you. (Though I have different opinions on long term use…)

✅ What I am saying, is that massage is here to compliment you, but it may be a bandaid fix if your lifestyle consistently (that’s the key word) invites discomfort.

So if regular massage isn’t working, that’s okay! Maybe what your body really needs is a good nights rest, and a big glass of water. Ya that’s not nearly as fun, but it’s the raw truth.

Is that bad for business? Perhaps, but someone’s got to say it.
