Functional nutrition and wellness to me doesn’t mean that you pile on all the perfect foods and workouts, expecting everyone to hop on board! I’ve had plenty of women come to me that are in “depression mode” who’ve actually found what I do with my profession to be helpful in so many ways. Everyone is different, however, baby steps seem to be key.
Sometimes it really is just about making our beds in the morning and getting sunlight before we start our day. Everyone has 5 minutes. Maybe it’s preparing one healthy meal a day for 2 weeks, just one! Perhaps it’s journaling for 2 weeks before even starting the program, cutting out some screen time or practicing breath work a few times a day.
Whatever yours is, let’s get to the bottom of it, not everyone has the motivation for workouts just yet.. That’s all it is though… YET!

Although it may be hard to motivate with a full on plan just yet, small healthy habits trigger the reward system and dopamine response in the brain. Again, not just with exercise, sometimes we start small. Making our bed in the morning, cutting out screen time before bed, making one healthy meal a day, getting 10 minutes of sunshine when we wake up, organizing something that has been driving you crazy for months, or even practicing breath work for the first time ever!
Yes, exercise is is a crucial part of beating depression naturally, but starting off with micro doses of healthy habits can get us to that next step which is the motivation to do so! -> that “runners high” can feel the same as when someone taking other drugs too! Chemicals are released in the brain during this time (opioid & cannabinoid) we all know which is the better choice, and we can get there!
There’s always room for antidepressants or serotonin boosters if it’s too hard to start alone, but I feel this shouldn’t be a “forever home” always strive to do the hard thing, to be the best versions, the healthiest version for you and your family!

Guilty! My coach is always right! It sucks to hear at times, and it hurts to hear from me as well when I’m your coach, but it’s how we thrive! I totally fall off and have freak outs about life as whole, however, I start back up. Once you realize that it’s actually not “starting back up” that you’re just being human, life gets a bit easier. Be consistent with your intentions, whatever they are! I’m not even talking about workouts here, there’s other things that train your brain to think differently and accomplish your monthly goals. Whether this be sleep performance, getting uncomfortable and beating depression with more natural remedies, acquiring better work ethic at the office AND home, learning to cope with anxiety, time management and even remembering to put more time into yourself rather than everyone else (including your kids) There’s more to a healthy lifestyle that just beating yourself up in the gym! This young lady is just starting out with her meal plan, no more under eating 🙌 It’s a work in progress because it’s just how we are, always thinking we’re eating enough or the right foods! Especially with teens, learning these habits now will immensely impact her 20’s, 30’s, and 40’s with her menstrual cycle, neurological stressors, and give her a fighting chance at a longer, healthier, happier life with whatever future she decides. This isn't just for the ladies! Marriage is coming later on in life these days, that only means, so are babies! We wait for our "ducks to be in a row" before starting the journey of birthing children. Many don't find a problem with fertility until their mid 30's!
Here's the thing, studies are showing that we're missing our "fertility zone".. Rightfully so! Get your life in order first, but make sure that you're keeping your reproductive system young by keeping a balanced diet, handling your stress in better ways, and exercising regularly the years prior of pregnancy, during pregnancy and after!

Typically, when you get a blood test 🩸 they do check your thyroid, but the Dr. will only do a basic blood draw unless you ask otherwise! Yes, they will check your Thyroid Stimulating Hormone levels, but we need to see all of your thyroid ranges here. When you get your results, bring them to me and I'll find out what your nutrition should look like in order to get those hormones in check from the inside out with foods, possibly some supplements and what your workouts should look like as well 🙌, then it’s up to you to do the work 😉

I, myself, struggled with this for years. Hopping on the scale every morning to see my "progress" or my "damage".
If this is you, STOP IMMEDIATELY❗️
Not only can this aid in body dysmorphia, giving you false hope for unrealistic goals, and make you feel really bad about yourself for not weighing what you did in high school, but the numbers aren't real. They do nothing for us, but cause judgement to ourselves! Get HEALTHY, STRONG, BE KIND TO YOURSELF and most importantly, STOP COMPARING YOURSELF TO OTHERS! If fat loss happens to be your main concern, lets check in on that once a month, or even every 6 weeks. Take measurements, if you're doing your part. Pinch tests even! NOT with only your body weight. The scale will show water intake, your menstrual cycle, even your stressful night of sleeping. Crazy huh?
