Hi, I’m Alexis! 👋🏼
I’m the co-founder (and daughter) of our mother-daughter team here at A to Z Speech Therapy 🩵

I earned my undergraduate degree from GVSU and my graduate degree from MSU. Before opening A to Z Speech Therapy with my mom, I worked as a speech-language pathologist in both the public schools and pediatric outpatient settings.

In my free time, you can usually find me walking around downtown Brighton with my husband and our Labrador, Finn, spending time at the lake with family and friends, or gardening in my backyard. 🐾🌊🪴

Hi, I’m Rachel! 👋🏼
I’m the co-founder (and mom!) of our mother-daughter team here at A to Z Speech Therapy 🩵

Before opening A to Z Speech Therapy with my daughter, Alexis, I worked as a speech-language pathologist in the public schools for 28 years.

Outside of work, you can usually find me boating, spending time on the lake with family and friends, or with my dogs, Luna and Lanie. 🌊☀️🐾

Hi! We are Rachel and Alexis, the mother- daughter team behind A to Z Speech Therapy 🩵

Together, we offer speech therapy, orofacial myofunctional therapy, and social skills groups for children. Our work is grounded in strong family values, personalized care, and a deep commitment to helping kids communicate with confidence and clarity.

The name “A to Z” honors Rachel’s daughters, Alexis and Zoey, and reflects our promise to support each child’s unique journey from beginning to end.

We’re so grateful to do this work side by side and even more grateful to turn this lifelong dream into a reality with the families who trust us along the way! 🩵

Turn popsicle sticks into powerful myo tools this summer! 😋☀️

Here are 3 simple, effective ways we use a popsicle stick to support oral motor skills (and why they matter!):

1️⃣ Touch “the Spot”
Rub the stick just behind the upper front teeth (on the alveolar ridge) to help your child find their tongue’s rest spot.
➡️ Supports proper oral rest posture — tongue up, lips closed, breathing through the nose.

2️⃣ Lip Seal Challenge
Place the stick between the lips (no teeth!) and hold it there for a few seconds (or longer!).
➡️ Strengthens the orbicularis oris muscles and promotes nasal breathing which is essential for facial development and airway health.

3️⃣ Tongue Movements
Place the stick to the side or top of the mouth and encourage your child to reach their tongue to touch the stick side to side and up and down. Then, gently scrape the sides of the tongue to create a “skinny” tongue shape.
➡️ These movements build tongue strength, coordination, and awareness which are critical for clear speech, safe swallowing, and efficient feeding.

Try this after snack time for a fun, functional oral motor boost!
