Many times, I see a cluster of symptoms - low back discomfort/pain with pelvic floor dysfunction (e.g. constipation, urinary urgency, pain) but I always ask myself, what came first?
Chronology of symptoms gives some guidance but I think that we rationalize our low back symptoms too often:
>> āI just increased my mileageā
>> āI lifted wrongā or āI lifted ātooā heavyā
>> āI just had a babyā
>> āI wore the āwrongā shoesā
>> āI have horrible postureā
>> āIām getting olderā
The list could go on of different reasons we make up.
Most certainly one can have an acute onset of low back pain but even then I have to wonder, was the system maybe not set up to be as dynamic and responsive as we demand it to be?
All this to say, it is a case of chicken vs egg. We could chase our tail all day long. (For those who have worked with me, you know I love my puppy dog analogies.)
My bias is to āclearā low back symptoms while teaching the system to be dynamic. This may mean learning to reconnect with the pelvic floor to improve that pressure system.
