Yo-yo dieting, also known as weight cycling, refers to the repetitive pattern of losing and regaining weight. This often occurs when individuals follow restrictive diets to lose weight quickly, only to revert to their normal eating habits, leading to weight regain. The cycle can be frustrating and demotivating, as it can negatively impact both physical and mental health.

Several factors contribute to yo-yo dieting, but this most commonly happens, because of being in an excessive and unsustainable caloric deficit. While being in a deficit is essential for weight loss, eating too few of calories will quickly make us fall off of our plan and can lead to eating an excess of calories.

This is why it’s important to know how many calories your individual body burns, so that you can confidently know you are in a sustainable deficit.

This is what 1 pound of fat looks like. If you want to lose this amount of fat off of your body, you need to be in a deficit of 3500 calories. If you want to lose 1 pound a week, you need to either eat 500 less calories a day, burn 500 calories a day, or a combination of both.

Did you know that the only way to lose body fat is to be in a calorie deficit? No matter what diet you’re doing (keto, intermittent fasting, etc) they can all be effective at losing body fat, as long as you remain in a calorie deficit.

Without getting tested, with the fluctuations of water and several other variables, it can take months to figure out if you’re actually in a calorie deficit. Often times we’ll start our diets and our weight will drop tremendously in the first couple weeks, as we tend to stop eating high sodium, high inflammatory foods, and our body will let go of all the water we’ve been retaining, but even if you’re eating “clean” non processed foods, if you’re in a calorie surplus, you will still be putting on more body fat.

If you get your RMR tested, you will know with confidence that no matter what the scale says that day, if you were in a calorie deficit, you lost body fat.

How accurate is the machine that will perform the test to see how fast your metabolism is working?

100% accurate. The only inaccuracies can come from getting very poor sleep the night before the test, eating or drinking anything (other than water) before, and if you are sick. These things will affect your results and we will reschedule you at no cost to you, if you are feeling under the weather or got poor sleep, as we want to make sure you’re getting accurate results for your goals.
