💖 Motivational Monday: A Little Self-Love Goes a Long Way 💖

This Valentine’s Day, flip the script and turn love inward. 💕
Self-love isn’t about perfection, it’s about reflection, compassion, and giving yourself permission to grow.

Take a few quiet minutes this week to journal on questions like:
✨ What do I appreciate about myself?
✨ What feels hard to accept right now and why?
✨ What truly brightens my life, and how can I make space for more of it?

At Pennock Center for Counseling, we believe meaningful change starts with self-awareness and kindness toward yourself. You deserve the same care and understanding you give to others.

Let this today be a gentle reminder: you are worthy of love, patience, and support, especially from yourself. 🌈

💚 Team Member Spotlight: Meet Diane 🎉

After returning to Colorado in 2013, Diane and her husband made their home in the Brighton area, where they have enjoyed being active members of the community. She joined Pennock Center for Counseling in November 2014 as a part-time administrative assistant and, in July 2025, was promoted to Office Manager.

Diane completed a two-year Office Education program through the Career Development Center while in high school, earning a certificate in Office Management. With more than 40 years of experience in office administration and management, she brings both expertise and creativity to her role at Pennock Center. Her talents shine through in the thoughtful table presentations she designs for vendor fairs, engaging bulletin board displays, and the many ways she contributes to the success of the annual Healing Hearts fundraiser.

She is deeply passionate about helping children and serves on the board of directors for a nonprofit foundation that supports the needs of youth living in children’s homes. She also volunteers with other nonprofit organizations whenever support is needed. A Colorado native, she enjoys spending time in the mountains camping, fishing, and hiking. In quieter moments, she loves crocheting, reading a good book, and most of all, being a “Grammie,” a role that brings her tremendous joy.

💛 February is Youth Mental Health Awareness Month 💚

At Pennock Center for Counseling, we believe caring for our kids’ mental health is just as important as caring for their physical health. This month, we’re shining a light on simple, powerful ways to support the young people in our lives.

🌈 Encourage kids to share their feelings and build self-awareness
📓 Promote journaling, drawing, or creative writing
🧠 Help them recognize stress and talk about healthy coping skills
🎯 Support hobbies and interests that build confidence
🤝 Find spaces where they feel they truly belong
⏸️ Make time for low-stress, screen-free activities
💬 Teach them to name emotions: “I feel sad.” “I feel frustrated.”
🔁 Create a simple, consistent self-care routine

Small, everyday moments of support can make a lifelong difference. Let’s work together to help our youth feel seen, heard, and valued, not just this month, but all year long.

💚Team Member Spotlight: Meet Alexa🎉

Please join us in congratulating Alexa on recently acquiring her Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and National Certified Counselor (NCC) credentials! It is a huge accomplishment that required 2 years and 2,000+ hours of post-degree counseling experience and supervision.

She holds a Bachelor's degree in Psychology from Metropolitan State University of Denver and a Master's degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the University of Northern Colorado. From her education and training she gained a passion for collaborating with clients to forge their personal goals and is dedicated to creating a safe and supportive space where individuals can engage in meaningful, authentic work towards becoming their healthiest selves. Through her use of holistic and humanistic approaches to counseling, and her professional focus in chronic illness counseling, she supports clients facing a wide range of challenges and concerns.

Alexa began at Pennock Center for Counseling as an intern counselor through UNC in January of 2023 and, after completing her graduate program, she continued in her commitment to the center and the community when she was offered a position at Pennock Center as a Staff Therapist in January of 2024. Now, in 2026, she is stepping into the Clinical Supervisor role with the help of continued training and guidance from our new Executive Director, Julie Ratinoff, MA, LPC, ATR. Though her role is changing, she will continue to work with her own clients as well as supporting the other therapists in the clinic. She looks forward to helping new therapists by encouraging professional growth and exploration as they embark on their own paths in the counseling world.

When she is not in the counseling chair, Alexa focuses on her own self-care by spending time at home with her husband and her cat, playing cribbage with anyone willing to play, collecting trinkets at thrift stores, and connecting with friends as often as possible. She also stays active through traveling, skiing, and hiking - when our Colorado weather allows for it.

She is committed to creating a warm, respectful, and collaborative therapeutic environment where clients feel safe exploring life’s challenges and working toward meaningful change.

Kristen works with individuals experiencing anxiety, depression, life transitions, and relationship concerns.
