Did you know staring at digital screens for long periods can contribute to dry eye syndrome?

When we focus on phones, computers, or tablets, we blink less often. That means fewer tears are spread across the surface of the eye — leaving them dry, irritated, and uncomfortable. Other common symptoms can be burning or stinging, redness or intermittent blurred vision.

With screen time being a big part of daily life, dry eye symptoms are becoming more common. Using artificial tears regularly can help with these symptoms. We recommend using tears 2-4 times a day.

If you are using tears at least 2-4 times a day and still feeling uncomfortable, schedule an appointment and we can discuss other treatment options with you.

Recognizing the Symptoms of Cataracts

Is your vision starting to feel cloudy? Cataracts occur when the clear lens inside your eye becomes cloudy, causing blurred or hazy vision that can get worse over time.

Common symptoms include:
Blurred or cloudy vision
Colors that look faded
Glare and halos, especially with night driving
Needing brighter light to read
Frequent changes in your glasses prescription

As cataracts get worse, vision becomes more blurry and dim. Night driving can feel unsafe, reading may require stronger light, and daily activities can become more difficult without treatment.

The good news? Cataracts are very fixable and can be detected during a dilated eye exam.

Don't let Cataracts cloud your life! Schedule your dilated eye exam today.

Itchy, watery eyes? It just might be allergies.

Allergic conjunctivitis—often called “eye allergies”—is a common condition that happens when your eyes react to allergens like pollen, dust, or pet dander. Seasonal allergy changes are most common in spring and fall.

Common symptoms include:

Redness in the whites of the eyes

Itching or burning sensation

Watery or teary eyes

Swelling of the eyelids

Sensitivity to light

Unlike infections, allergic conjunctivitis is not contagious—but it can still be uncomfortable and affect your daily life.

If you’re experiencing these symptoms, our team can help you find relief and rule out other eye conditions. Don’t wait—your eyes deserve comfort and clarity!

Happy World Photography Day!

Did you know your eyes work a lot like a camera?

The cornea and lens act like a camera lens, the cornea providing the initial focusing power and the lens fine-tuning the focus.

The pupil works like a camera’s aperture, adjusting how much light enters.

And the retina functions like the film (or digital sensor!), capturing the image so your brain can process it.

Our eyes are the ultimate “built-in cameras”—constantly recording the world around us in stunning detail.

So today, as we celebrate the art of photography, let’s also appreciate the amazing cameras we carry with us every single day—our eyes.

Take care of your vision… it’s the lens through which you see life’s most beautiful moments.

📢 FEATURED FRIDAY

This months Featured Employee is Julie!

Hi there! My name is Julie. I have been a front desk receptionist at Kensington Ophthalmology for almost 14 years. Kensington Ophthalmology is my first job in the medical field. I've always felt a pull towards helping people/acts of service. I look forward to the interaction I have with our patients. I love my job! There is always something new to learn everyday.

I grew up in South Lyon and moved to Brighton over 30 years ago. My husband Ron and I have been married almost 35 years and have 2 beautiful daughters. Outside of work I enjoy scrapbooking/making cards, walking/hiking, hanging out with friends and the many adventures with my husband!

Happy National Left-Handers Day!

Fun fact: Being left-handed doesn’t automatically mean you’re left-eye dominant!

That’s because your hand dominance (the hand you write, throw, or stir your coffee with) is different from your eye dominance (the eye your brain naturally prefers when focusing on something).

For example, you might write, eat, and brush your teeth with your left hand—but when you look through a camera or are aiming at a target, your right eye naturally takes the lead.

Why does eye dominance matter?
It can play a role in sports like archery or baseball, in photography, and even in how you’re tested for glasses or contacts.

So today, whether you’re a lefty, a righty, or somewhere in between, give it up for the amazing ways our eyes and brains work together!

📢 FEATURED FRIDAY

This months Featured Employee is Jodi!

Hello! My name is Jodi. I am 46 years old. I have 2 boys, 27 and 22, and a Bulldog named Zeppelin. Zeppelin can be very stubborn, LOL.

I have been in the medical field for over 20 years and made my way to ophthalmology about 6 years ago.

I enjoy the summer, spending time outdoors and with my family and friends. I love to listen to music or go to a good concert.

I am a down to earth, happy go lucky person and enjoy life. I do enjoy what I do, taking care of people/patients is a good feeling and I am glad I chose this field as my career! To get someone to see better is an amazing feeling!
