The Shortest Day by Susan Cooper

So the shortest day came, and the year died,
And everywhere down the centuries of the snow-white world
Came people singing, dancing,
To drive the dark away.
They lighted candles in the winter trees;
They hung their homes with evergreen;
They burned beseeching fires all night long
To keep the year alive,
And when the new year's sunshine blazed awake
They shouted, reveling.
Through all the frosty ages you can hear them
Echoing behind us - Listen!!
All the long echoes sing the same delight,
This shortest day,
As promise wakens in the sleeping land:
They carol, fest, give thanks,
And dearly love their friends,
And hope for peace.
And so do we, here, now,
This year and every year.

Paul and I are doing a toy and treat drive for the Felix Foundation Fox Sanctuary & Rehab in Howell, MI.

They currently have 24 domestic foxes as permanent residents at the sanctuary, who were surrendered pets or rescued from fox fur farms.

Being a nonprofit, the sanctuary runs off donations and all goes towards food, medicine and vet bills. And toys and treats are usually last on the list. I would love to spoil all the foxes this holiday season. So you’ll see lots of posts about our drive - it’s very near and dear to our hearts.

If you happen to be a Costco member, they have this awesome Kong 4-pack, we would love if you could add this to your purchase. Reach out to- I’m happy to come pick up any donations - or they can always be dropped off at our house.

The drive runs until December 18.

MEET ALYSSA CELANO, REFLEXOLOGIST/BIRTH DOULA/HYNOBIRTHING INSTRUCTOR

I certainly didn’t grow up dreaming of working on people’s feet all day long, or ever being in people’s labor & delivery rooms. It was a career that I was led to. A career that took being open-minded and being fueled with heart and passion.

When I was younger I was diagnosed as lactose intolerant. Fast-forward 24 years to when I found out I had an autoimmune disease. I learned I had celiac disease, which is where my body attacks itself when I ingest gluten. Realizing I can help my body heal jump-started my whole journey deeper into the world of alternative healing.

The Healing Essentials was born in December 2017. It started as my way to merge my passions; oils and reflexology. To create an avenue to help people on multi-tiered levels. To further support people. To be a larger part of someone’s healing journey. To have the opportunity to be able to help people. To help all people.

But, my passion and specialization is women’s health and reproductive reflexology.

Reflexology is a science based on the principles that there are reflexes in the hands and feet relative to every organ, gland and part of the body. It increases circulation, improves nerve & blood supply and helps to normalize or balance body function. It is a gentle yet powerful modality that can be done on anyone from a couple day old baby to a person 110 years old. Blended with essential oils is a beautiful way to help support the body. It is stress relief working through nerve congestion and tension, supporting the body's ability to do what it does best - to heal.

Healing Essentials now encompasses reflexology, birth work, Bach flower essence remedies and loose leaf tea & teaware. To support anything from horrible menstrual cycles, infertility, pregnancy, labor & delivery, postpartum and menopause. To provide hormone support through all stages of a women's life. To provide emotional & physical support through-out preconception through postpartum. To support the body's natural ability to adapt and transition, while creating and growing life.
