🎨 Tip Tuesday with Aubry DeFoe, LPCA, ATR-P

Art therapist Aubry DeFoe reminds us that mindfulness doesn’t have to mean clearing your mind or sitting still. Sometimes mindfulness can look like picking up art supplies and simply noticing the colors, textures, and movements as you create.

✨ Process over product.

🧠 New Article from Nurse Katie: Understanding Complex PTSD (C-PTSD)

Trauma doesn’t always come from a single event. For many people, trauma develops from long-term or repeated experiences, especially during childhood. This is known as Complex Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (C-PTSD).

C-PTSD can impact many areas of a person’s life, including:
• Difficulty managing intense emotions
• Feelings of shame, guilt, or low self-worth
• Challenges with trust, relationships, and boundaries
• Dissociation or feeling disconnected from the body

Chronic trauma can actually change how the brain processes stress, emotions, and relationships, affecting areas such as the amygdala, hippocampus, and prefrontal cortex.

In her newest article, Nurse Katie explains the symptoms, causes, and how trauma affects the brain, while reminding us that healing is possible with the right support.

🧠 New Article from Nurse Katie: Understanding Trauma Responses

Have you ever wondered why some people react to stress by fighting back, running away, shutting down, or trying to keep the peace?

These reactions are known as the four trauma responses: Fight, Flight, Freeze, and Fawn. They are not choices we consciously make — they are automatic survival responses shaped by our nervous system and past experiences.

In her newest article, Nurse Katie explains how these responses work, why they happen, and why it's important to show yourself compassion when reflecting on your own reactions to trauma.

Understanding your nervous system can be a powerful step toward healing. ❤️
