YWCA of Northeast Tennessee and Southwest Virginia is dedicated to eliminating racism, empowering women and promoting peace, justice, freedom and dignity for all. We advance our mission through programs supporting the economic empowerment of women and girls, women's and girls' health and safety, and racial justice and civil rights. Our sliding scale daycare, teen pregnancy and parenting education program, free afterschool STEM program, and many other programs are part of advancing these goals.

This year for Women’s History Month, we are spreading awareness to Our Herstory by acknowledging a few women who shaped our long legacy.

This week - and today on her birthday - we honor Dr. Dorothy I. Height (1912-2010), the “Godmother of the Civil Rights Movement” whose life’s work boldly advanced racial and gender justice.

Known for her courage and steadfast advocacy, she was a movement builder, a visionary leader, and an unwavering champion for social justice. Her actions paved the way for progress that continues to shape our movement today. As we honor her birthday, let’s recommit to advancing her mission for racial and gender equity and amplifying the voices that too often go unheard.

We are proud to recognize this year’s out-of-state judges for .

For 35 years, YWCA NETN and SWVA Tribute to Women has celebrated the incredible women of NETN and SWVA who are making a lasting impact in their communities. This milestone year is no exception—and we’re honored to have a distinguished panel of judges helping us select our 2026 award recipients.

Each year, our judges are thoughtfully chosen from outside the region and represent a diverse group of accomplished women who bring valuable perspective, leadership, and expertise to the selection process.

Join us in celebrating these remarkable women—not only for their role in Tribute to Women, but for the meaningful difference they’re making in their own communities every day.
