One of the professors in my dissertation committee was Christopher Peterson, one of the founders of the field of Positive Psychology. He was pretty much loved by all who knew him and he is missed (he died a few years ago). You've seen a quote from him in my emails:

“Happiness is a product of our pursuits, not necessarily the pursuit of happiness per se, but the pursuit of other things that make life worth living.”

Christopher Peterson (1950 – 2012), Psychologist, Teacher, Mentor.

Turns out, the Japanese actually have a word for the above...
Which leads me to challenge you to find what is your IKIGAI.

With no direct English translation, it’s a term that embodies the idea of happiness in living. Yukari Mitsuhashi explains.

As the semester inches towards the end, some inspirational words:

"When you feel that everything is over
That everything in front of you is dark,
That all around you are leaving you...
It's time to leave the theatre, the movie is over."

I teach Psych 390: Substance Abuse... Ma*****na is a very complicated substance, with many medical benefits, with different risks from alcohol. Most understand the wisdom in responsible alcohol use. Many see ma*****na as being risk-free. It's not, as you can see below. So wise and responsible use is best. It is also important to understand one's genetic predisposition for schizophrenia, since that raises the risk of the developing the condition.

As attitudes toward ma*****na shift, a leading expert on psychosis warns about heavy teen use and concern that it raises the risk of later schizophrenia from about 1 percent to 3 percent.

When you have 20 min of uninterrupted time, watch this great story on a great, ordinary man, who's saved thousands of lives over his own lifetime.
http://www.nytimes.com/video/opinion/100000004683722/the-forger.html

As a teenager, Adolfo Kaminsky saved thousands of lives by forging passports to help children flee the N***s. He spent his life helping others escape atrocities around the world.
