๐Ÿšจ Important Recall Information๐Ÿšจ

Our office wants to make you aware of a recent U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recall involving certain childrenโ€™s ibuprofen products.

๐Ÿ‘ถ Whatโ€™s affected?
Childrenโ€™s Ibuprofen Oral Suspension (100 mg per 5 mL)
4 oz (120 mL) bottles
Lot numbers: 7261973A and 7261974A
Expiration date: January 31, 2027

โš ๏ธ Why was it recalled?
Some bottles may contain foreign material (including gel-like substances or small dark particles).

๐Ÿฉบ What this means for your child:
This is classified as a Class II recall, meaning serious harm is unlikely, but itโ€™s still important to take precautions.

โœ… What you should do:
โ€ข Stop using the product immediately
โ€ข Check your bottleโ€™s lot number
โ€ข Return it to the store or dispose of it safely
โ€ข Contact us if your child has taken this medication and you notice anything unusual

POV: You fixed the diet and suddenlyโ€ฆ the meltdowns decreased, the energy leveled out, and bedtime got easier.

As a pediatrician, we see it all the time, when we reduce added sugars and focus on balanced, whole-food options, kids feel better. Steady blood sugar supports steadier moods, improved focus, and more predictable energy.

Think simple swaps:
โ€ข Water or milk instead of sugary drinks
โ€ข Protein + fiber at every meal
โ€ข Whole fruits over processed snacks
โ€ข Balanced plates with lean protein, healthy fats, and complex carbs

Small nutritional pivots can deliver big behavioral wins.

If your child is struggling with their nutrition, let us help! Schedule online today!

๐ŸŽ’โœ๏ธ Is your child starting Pre-K or Kindergarten this year? Big milestones call for smart preparation and a pediatrician-approved game plan.

The transition into the classroom sets the tone for a healthy, confident school year. Hereโ€™s what families should prioritize:

โœ… Schedule a wellness visit. Ensure required school physicals are complete and immunizations are up to date.
โœ… Check vision & hearing. Early screening helps prevent learning challenges before they start.
โœ… Build sleep routines now. Consistent bedtimes improve focus, mood, and immune health.
โœ… Practice independence skills. Zipping jackets, opening lunch containers, and handwashing all build confidence.
โœ… Talk about emotions. Normalize first-day jitters and reinforce coping strategies.

A proactive start supports academic success, emotional resilience, and overall well-being.

๐Ÿ€ Spring & St. Patrickโ€™s Day Safety Tips for Kids:

1. Helmet Up! โ€“ Bikes, scooters, and skateboards need proper helmets and pads.
2. Watch for Traffic โ€“ Longer days mean more outdoor play; remind kids to stop, look, and listen before crossing streets.
3. Playground Check โ€“ Make sure playground equipment is safe, dry, and free of hazards.
4. Sun Protection โ€“ Hats, sunscreen, and sunglasses help prevent sunburns during spring outings.
5. Stay Hydrated โ€“ Warmer weather = more water breaks, especially during outdoor activities.
6. Lucky Footwear โ€“ Shoes with good grip prevent slips on wet grass or sidewalks.
7. Costume Safety โ€“ Leprechaun hats or festive accessories shouldnโ€™t block vision or cause tripping.
8. Allergy Awareness โ€“ Pollen season is here! Keep antihistamines handy if your child is sensitive.
9. Buddy System โ€“ Whether hunting for shamrocks or exploring the park, kids should always have a buddy or adult nearby.
10. Emergency Plan โ€“ Teach kids how to call 911 and share their address; safety first, luck second!

Share these tips with 3 fellow parents youโ€™re excited to do fun spring activities with!

Spring Break Plans? ๐ŸŒดโ˜€๏ธ

If your getaway includes waterโ€”whether itโ€™s a pool, lake, or oceanโ€”stay prepared! ๐Ÿ’ฆ Drowning is the leading cause of preventable death in children ages 1-4 and the second leading cause for kids 5-14.

โœ… Keep your kids safe with these vacation water safety tips:
๐Ÿ”น Always designate a water watcherโ€”drowning is silent and happens fast.
๐Ÿ”น Use Coast Guard-approved life jackets for boating and open water activities.
๐Ÿ”น Teach kids to stay away from drains and always swim with an adult.
๐Ÿ”น Check if pools have secure fences and self-latching gates
๐Ÿ”น Don't let your guard down inside - most kids drown during non-swim times.
๐Ÿ”น Keep outside doors locked and put portable alarms or even jingle bells on them to alert you if a child goes out
๐Ÿ”น Never leave toys or floats in the pool
๐Ÿ”น Teach kids what to do if caught in a rip current - relax and float!
๐Ÿ”น Enroll kids in swim lessons before you go โ€”a life-saving skill at any age!

A fun vacation is a safe vacation! ๐Ÿ–๏ธ
Check out the water safety checklist below. Stay vigilant and enjoy your trip!

TCAPs! ACTs! EOCs! OH MY!

Test anxiety affects so many kids, so we wanted to share 3 simple ways to help your child manage it and walk in with confidence.

1. Practice the routine! Lay out clothes, pack supplies, and talk through what the day will look like. Familiar steps help calm big feelings.

2. Teach a quick reset! Slow, deep breaths in through the nose and out through the mouth can steady nerves in the moment. Remind them to take it one question at a time.

3. Praise effort over outcome! Let your child know their hard work matters more than a score. Confidence grows when they feel supported.

If test anxiety is taking a toll as standardized testing approaches, we are here to help!

When kids seem cranky, unfocused, or low on energy, it can be tricky to tell whether it's sleep or nutrition that's the main culprit. Here's a quick guide:

OVERTIRED:
โญ Yawning, rubbing eyes, difficulty waking up
โญ Mood swings tied to time of day
โญ More easily soothed after rest

UNDERNOURISHED:
โญ Persistent low energy despite adequate sleep
โญ Irritability, poor concentration, or headaches
โญ Hunger cues, skipped meals, or picky eating patterns

OVERLAPS:
โญ Trouble focusing, emotional ups and downs, low motivation
โญ Can compound each other. A tired, undernourished child struggles even more

SPOTTING THE DIFFERENCE:
โญ Track sleep routines and meal patterns for a week
โญ Note if energy improves with rest alone, or also with balanced meals
โญ Look for consistent signs of hunger or growth changes

Balanced nutrition: protein, healthy fats, fiber, and steady hydration, supporting energy, brain function, and mood.

Our pediatric team can help you connect the dots and create a plan to fuel your child's growth, focus, and mood.

Schedule a well visit to make sure your child is fueled for success at home and in the classroom!
