Heart Matters Home Health Care was born...

When someone we care about is ill or dying it’s important that they are treated with extra care and support… I know first-hand how hard it is to find the professional help needed during these tough times. My name is Cindy May and this is my story.

Back in 1996 while raising my small children, my dear grandmother was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease – a debilitating disease that wipes away the person’s memory and abilities to the point where they regress back to childhood. My family hired aides to care for my grandmother, but they took advantage of her by stealing from her and abusing her. I couldn’t stand by and watch my grandmother go through this, after all, she was still a human being, one who brought so much love and joy to our family. So we took her in.

Taking care of an adult is a 24/7 job, that requires patience and respect. My grandmother needed to be bathed, fed, her diapers changed just like my small children required. This went on for 3 years. Near the end, she slipped into a coma. My grandmother had always loved fresh flowers and classical music, so in order to give her comfort during her final days, I put fresh flowers in her arms while she listened to hear classical music in our home. It was a privilege to love and care for her during a time where she needed me the most.

As my 4 kids grew, I opened a daycare in my home so that I could continue to be a stay at home mom to care for my kids and earn a living. After my children had grown I was able to go back to school to study home health care – something that has come naturally to me as most of my life I’ve been raising children, and caring for the elderly and sick.
