Disease Outbreaks, Patient Scheduling and Flow Changes at Kids in the Sun
Here at Kids in the Sun, we work with families to care for children in an inclusive manner that respects decision making of parents. In regard to vaccines, that means we have continued to care for unvaccinated children, despite our disagreement with that choice, so that they still have a place to call a medical home. However, recently we have witnessed a rise in communicable diseases that is certainly related to decreases in community vaccination levels. We have seen multiple Pertussis (whooping cough) cases this year and last, including in the Strongsville and Highland school districts among others. We are now seeing measles around the country, first noted in Texas (including the death of a child) and now in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Kentucky. Due to these concerns, we are taking some new steps to ensure the safety of patients in our office, as much as can be controlled. We will always strive to protect all of our patients, especially our vulnerable newborns and infants and those that are immunosuppressed, who are at high risk to these preventable diseases. If your child is behind on vaccines and you want to talk to their provider about options to catch up, please make a follow up appointment, send a message, or discuss in office!
