We get asked a lot, how often do we get the shape of a shoe right on the first try?
The answer - not always 😅 but sometimes, we sure do get it right… like this hind!
It helps when you have a great shaped shoe to start with, like this St. Croix Eventer Plus! These shoes make shaping easy, and keep our clients and their horses performing their best!

TORCHING BAREFOOT HORSES?
Hear me out!
Don’t try this at home!
We love torching and putting Durasole on a barefoot horse to really give them some extra strength!
Do you have a regime for keeping barefoot feet strong and healthy? What works best for you?

What a transformation! 🤩🤩
Cracks are a common issue that come up when hooves get too long and start to break up! Keeping your horse on a strict trimming routine helps prevent brittle feet from breaking up! In a few regular cycles, you won’t even be able to tell this hoof ever had a problem!

The horse world has been turned upside down a bit… but we’re making the best of it! Seeing cool places, doing a lot of laundry…
But in all seriousness, our thoughts and prayers go out to all those who are fighting this virus firsthand. We will continue to do our part being vigilant and on the go!
We appreciate our veterinarian Dr. Brad Jackman DVM, AS, ACVS sharing his expertise to keep horses safe, happy, and shod!

Our Story

A horseman at heart, Lee understands the whole horse. His love for horses began early, roping and training horses on his parents’ cattle and horse ranch in South Dakota from the time he could hold the reins. In 2007, he graduated from Western Dakota Tech, Rapid City, SD as an industrial electrician. He rodeoed, both amateur and professionally, for several years before becoming a farrier. He qualified for the College National Finals Rodeo three times and the Badlands Pro Rodeo Circuit Finals two times. He married Jamie (Lindsay) Olsen in 2008; she runs barrels, ropes, is a Nurse Practitioner. They moved to TX in 2010, and their son Trace was born in 2012.

Currently, Lee attends many of the biggest team ropings in Texas, Oklahoma City, OK and Las Vegas, NV. Roping is a family affair at the Olsen Ranch. He is grateful to be able to rope together with his wife, Jamie. Their son, Trace, loves roping, too.

As a AFA Certified Journeyman Farrier, Lee uses a variety of trusted methods to personalize care for each horse’s need. He works on some of the top performance horses in multiple disciplines. Additionally, he is the resident Therapeutic Farrier at Equine Sports Medicine and Surgery in Weatherford, Texas.

At Olsen Equine, continuing education is a priority, and is evident in Lee’s practice as well as his passion for educating horse owners. Lee is in constant pursuit of improving the quality of equine hoof care. He teaches shoeing and trimming clinics in various locations, and provides helpful resources for equipping horse owners to best care for their horses.
