"Love protects" (I Cor 13:4-7). But what does Love protect? Love protects the other person from harm. Love protects the marital relationship from outside influences that may harm the relationship. Love protects yourself from temptations (Prov 4:23) and sin. Love does not control others (that's fear), but allows for boundaries to protect oneself from harm while loving and influencing growth FOR another person. While love may look different at different times, love will always protect, and love will always be for others.
