Our Story

The Custer County Historical Society in Broken Bow Nebraska, started in 1960 with as a research library with community folks having the love of history. This old photo was about our first home in what was the former City Library site when they moved in the their new site in the 1960’s /aka Carnegie building. Over the years we have moved around and finally, in 1994 found our current site on the west side of the square.

Member of the Broken Bow Chamber of Commerce- we were awarded the 55 years in business in 2015 and gaining each year.

Retired Curator, Mary Landkamer received the Nebraska Genealogist of the Year Award in 2011 from Nebraska State Genealogical Society, and the Genealogy Library honors her name for the years of dedication.

Nebraska Educational Telecommunications Partner Award, for work the Nebraska Educational TV productions. With NETV we have had the Solomon D. Butcher Photos in video.
