They may have taken second place, but in our hearts they're all winners!

With clacking fans in hand, the Woodside Dancers wowed the audience at the NYC Department for the Aging's "Talent Is Timeless" competition, line dancing to 803Fresh's "Boots on the Ground."

Every performer from the dancing crew is a member of our Woodside Older Adult Center in Queens - and is at least 60 years of age.

Thanks to Program Director Tonya Chestnut for sharing the great news, and congratulations to the Woodside Dancers! Your talent is truly timeless!

We’re proud to help train the next generation of Substance Use Counselors — like Oluwatope Adepoju — who are making a difference in the fight against addiction.

Through Samaritan Daytop Village’s CASAC Training Institute (CTI), we offer credentialing and recredentialing courses for those ready to turn their passion into a career. Thanks to NYS OASAS, scholarships are available for new students.

Learn more about CTI and download the scholarship application forms at https://www.samaritanvillage.org/certified-trainings/casac-training-institute/

Oluwatope Adepoju's journey to completing the Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor (CASAC) program at Samaritan Daytop Village was made possible through an OASAS Addiction Workforce Program.

"One of the most valuable aspects of the program is the deep focus on practical skills and empathy in addiction counseling," said Adepoju. "I gained a comprehensive understanding of substance use disorders, treatment approaches, and how to provide effective support to individuals."

🎒✏️ They can't wait to tell their classmates what they did this summer!

Twenty-five kids from our Boulevard Family Residence had an epic Back-to-School Dream Day at Madison Square Garden, thanks to the Garden of Dreams Foundation.

They scored backpacks, school supplies, lunchboxes, and hoodies 🏀👟 - and met stars like Noah Schnapp and Matthew Modine of STRANGER THINGS, NY Knicks legend Larry Johnson, and hip-hop icon Darryl McDaniels of Run DMC. 🤩

We just kicked off 👟our Lowe's Home Improvement Hometowns project at Gloria’s House Family Residence in the Bronx! 🛠️

❤️Thanks to a generous Lowe’s Hometowns grant, the backyard is getting a major upgrade: Binky’s Backyard, a new playground where more than 500 children at the shelter can play outdoors and create lifelong memories. 🛝☀️

Lowe’s Store Captain Jamar Wright joined our Program Director Lissette Rojano, Operations Manager Maximillian Padilla, and Facilities Director Anthony Turner to survey the site and snap some “before” pics. 📷 We can’t wait to share more photos of our progress along the way and make the big reveal of the completed playground.

🎊 We're proud to celebrate Jim Hollywood, our Vice President of Residential & Recovery Services, for being named on City and State NY’s Above & Beyond: Social Services list!

For over 30 years, Jim has dedicated himself to the behavioral health field, expanding access, creating innovative programs, and mentoring countless future service providers. There’s no doubt that thousands of people living with substance use disorder are better off today because of Jim’s work.

☀️Summer style was in full effect at the 1st Annual All-White Affair, hosted by the Woodside Older Adult Center and the Boulevard Family Residence!

The celebration brought together multiple generations, dressed to impress in breezy, all-white summer attire — a fun fashion theme that added an extra touch of flair to the party. 🤍

Events like this highlight the power of partnerships between our programs and the welcoming, inclusive spaces they have created for one another.

Special thanks to Boulevard’s Recreation Coordinator Jamel McKithen and Woodside’s Program Director Tonya Chestnut for bringing this vibrant vision to life!

Things are looking up - and up - at our site! 🏗️⬆️

We were thrilled to welcome Molly Wasow Park, Commissioner of the NYC Human Resources Administration / NYC Department of Homeless Services, for a tour of our Highbridge construction site - and some fantastic views of the City.

Since breaking ground last December, we’ve made incredible progress. The subcellar levels are currently being built, and we've reached the ninth floor. We plan to "top out" by the end of this year. 🚧🔝

When finished, this sustainable high-rise will bring 400+ units of affordable, supportive, and transitional housing to individuals and families in need. We currently anticipate the building will be ready for tenants in the latter half of 2027.

Stay tuned for more milestones! This is just the beginning.

We were honored to welcome Rep. Ritchie Torres and the Third Avenue Business Improvement District Executive Director Pedro Suarez and Program Manager of Commercial Revitalization Ben Engel at The Richard Pruss Wellness Center in the Mott Haven section of the Bronx.

On their separate tours, they explored how our behavioral health, healthcare, and recovery services work together to deliver integrated, person-centered care to the community.

Centralized under one roof are:
* 2 Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinics (CCBHCs)
* A primary health care center
* A community-based recovery center
* A healthcare management and coordination service
* An opioid treatment program
* An Admissions Center

They were especially interested in our outreach efforts to share harm reduction tools and strategies and provide free Narcan training.

We’re grateful for the opportunity to share our work. We look forward to collaborating with you and being a resource in the future.

In 2022, 32.6 million women in the U.S. were diagnosed with substance use disorder. Yet only 15.2% accessed treatment.

For women, the barriers to care look different than they do for men: social stigma, lack of gender-responsive services, and fear of losing custody, to name a few.

In the Summer issue of Behavioral Health News, Sarah March, Program Director of our Young Mothers Program in Manhattan, advocates for family-centered residential treatment, an approach that supports keeping families together instead of tearing them apart.

🎾 Game. Set. Fun! The kids from Gloria’s House and Bridge Haven Family Residences aced their very first tennis lesson with the New York Junior Tennis & Learning’s free Community Tennis Program! 🏆

From ages 6 to 17, our rising stars learned the basics of the game under the guidance of NYJTL instructor Albert. And the best part? They’re coming back for six more sessions! 💪

Big thanks to Program Director Lissette Rojano, Recreation Coordinator Faith Ortiz, and Admin Assistant Tyriek Eason for rallying with the crew. And, a special shoutout to VP of Transitional Housing Jerry Heaney for the winning connection! 💫
