(Isaiah 58) We've spoken before about fasting for healing. But today I want to talk about the gifts of fasting. There's a door that opens when we fast and pray. It's not in heaven it's within us. Inside of us is a good dog, the spirit and a bad dog, the flesh. These two are always fighting. The one we feed the most is the one that wins day to day. God is always extending gifts to His children. But when we fast and pray we can hear and see them. They are: wisdom, legal protection, physical protection, creativity, healing, finances, comfort, influence with man, and power over nature, to name a few. From time to time even the best Christian can begin to slip in their focus on God. It doesn't mean we don't love Him, it means we get distracted. Fasting restores dependence and refreshes relationship. And that's where we belong.

(Luke 22:36) Part 1: We know how Jesus said if you don’t have a sword, sell your cloak and buy one. But he also said the good Shepherd gives his life for the sheep (John 10:11). Turning the other cheek, in contrast, this is regarding personal offense. But when it comes to self preservation, preserving the lives of others, or one's patriotic duty - that’s when it’s time to pick up a sword. We have seen violence grow in our nation from Venezuela, Haiti, and even American sources and it will probably only escalate with time.

(Ephesians 5:25) Part 2: But without men to guide them, younger boys are coming up confused, thinking that they have an effeminate side that they must get validation for from other men. This is the perversion of Lucifer to the intended purpose of God. Only understanding this condition can the church reach out with compassion and minister to them. Remember, this is a lost generation who came up without fathers in the home and the accountability lies on the shoulders of those men. But now we must remember that Christ died for all and reach out to all.

(Ephesians 5:25) Part 1: It bears explanation as to how Christ loves the church and gave Himself for it. Christ loves us in a long-suffering compassionate way, forgiving, supportive, protective, the list goes on and on. He’s empathetic. It’s misunderstood nowadays, what men should do with the X and Y chromosome. We are given that chromosome for a reason, it’s to know how to love women, how to understand them, to be sensitive toward them in a kind and selfless way. This is how Christ gave Himself for the church.

(Galatians 6:2) Part 3: The word of God compels us to bear one another's burdens, but the best place to take a burden is to the Lord. So, we should always be ready to offer a listening ear, a shoulder to cry on, and a warm, sincere embrace, but we should also wind up directing the discouraged soul to the Great Physician. Discouragement can also result from, among other things, a complete lack of appreciatio. If a new Christian offers a lesson or sermon with only one point or if a child sings, "Jesus loves me" and forgets some of the words they should be appreciated.

(Gal 6:2) Part 2: Of course, they're many other reasons for discouragement/ depression. In my case (John) it was severe injury resulting in extreme pain lasting several years. The seat of the emotions is on a table of showbread in the temple of the soul. Although the Greek word for soul is "psyche", I never received healing for my damaged soul from a psychologist.

(Matthew 16:6-12) Part 2: Every thing on the tree of Jesus’ ministry, including us, springs from the taproot of the word and the power of the Heavenly Father. In their minds the men relived how much was provided directly from the Master’s hand, the joy of the people, and the overall beauty of the moment. When Jesus relates this to teaching it makes such a powerful impact on these future pillars of the early church that they would later be quoted as saying, “.., we will give ourselves continually to prayer, and to the ministry of the word.” (Acts 6:4) ~

(Matthew 16:6-12) Part 1: The Pharisees and Sadducees represented two denominations of Judaism. Jesus is reminding His disciples of the many thousands that were fed and how it was done. Jesus could have made it rain bread to feed the thousands. He could’ve caused them all to pick up a stone and turned the stones into bread. He could’ve put bread on the trees to fall into their hands. But, He chose to set up an illustration beforehand that He would later relate to teaching and to His ministry as a whole.
