Dr Kajal Malkan DMSc MPAS PA-C ✅️
One year ago, I started this journey with a simple question from my own clinical practice: is this truly a problem, and if so, how do we fix it?
That problem was communication—specifically, how gaps in provider-to-provider communication can impact patient care. At the time, I was focused on finding an answer. But over the past year, this journey became so much more than that—it changed how I think, how I approach problems, and how I grow as a provider.
What began as a question turned into a process. I learned how to step back and truly understand a problem before trying to solve it—diving into research, challenging my own assumptions, and putting those findings into a formal paper.
From there, I shifted from learning to building. I created a quality improvement project from scratch—designing surveys, developing an educational presentation, and working alongside other providers. Through that, I learned how to translate ideas into real-world change.
Then came the phase that pushed me the most—execution and reflection. Collecting data, analyzing results, and turning it all into a comprehensive, in-depth paper forced me to think deeper, be more intentional, and trust the process.
By the end of this journey, it wasn’t just about answering the original question. It was about who I became along the way—someone who approaches challenges with structure, curiosity, and confidence.
All of this while running a business and being present for my family. It wasn’t easy. There were long nights, moments of doubt, and times I questioned if I could keep going.
But today, I can say I did it.
I feel honored. I feel proud. And yes—there were tears when it all came together.
The most meaningful part of this journey wasn’t just the degree. It was seeing my parents and in-laws emotional and proud, seeing the pride in my husband’s eyes, and knowing my children are watching and believing that they can accomplish big things too.
This DMSc journey challenged me in every way—but it also reminded me why I started.
Grateful. Accomplished. And ready for what’s next.
